Atleast three games postponed!!
Going to be a quiet Christmas for us on the football front after the next three games were postponed because of the COVID outbreak. Seems as though the whole club and academy have been closed down until further testing and checks done.
Strikes me that, assuming that the outbreak is controlled, this is great opportunity for Johnson to work with the available and returning squad on his new ideas and approach. This applies not only to the physical aspects but more importantly the mental aspects in our run in to the end of the season. Lincoln game restored the winning mentality with a killer instinct, something sadly lacking for some considerable time. Forget Tuesday's game and the thrown together side that included 'off-form' players and those returning from injury.
The time available to Johnson will also give him the opportunity to consider who to move on, I am sure we could help him with that, and more importantly who to bring in. The idea of a squad composition that reflects a balance of age and experience across the squad and development teams, suggests that any additions will be from the lower end of the age range, but with experience in lower leagues or loanees. Either way, all of this adds to the positivity that has developed over the last couple of weeks and maybe we will have a Happy New Year!!

Re: Atleast three games postponed!!
Sunderland AFC has today informed the EFL that it will not be able to play its next three Sky Bet League One fixtures following an outbreak of Covid-19 at the Academy of Light.
After one senior player tested positive for coronavirus on Monday, selected players and staff undertook additional testing and a further four cases of coronavirus have now been confirmed.
The individuals that have tested positive – and those that have come into close contact with them – are now observing a period of self-isolation at home.
Following extensive dialogue and clear guidance from Public Health England, SAFC has taken the decision to close the Academy of Light with immediate effect for a 10-day period in order to protect its players and staff and to prevent the further spread of the virus.
Chief Executive Officer James Rodwell said: “It is with a heavy heart that I have informed the EFL that we are unable to play our next three league fixtures. The welfare of our players, staff and opponents remains the number one priority and following detailed conversations with the relevant authorities, we have also taken the responsible decision to close the Academy of Light for a 10-day period. On behalf of everyone at the club, I wish all of those affected a swift and complete recovery.”
Lee Johnson’s side are scheduled to return to training on Sunday 27 December ahead of resuming their 2020-21 campaign at Accrington Stanley on Tuesday 29 December.

Re: Atleast three games postponed!!
Are the sides we would/should have been playing in those 3 games going to be given the 3 points automatically by the EFL, just because we cannot fulfil those 3 fixtures?

Will this put any more pressure on SD?
We will fall further behind and promotion may look even further away. Surely he can only fund this for so long.

The worrying thing is not that SD has money problems but the new owners could be faced with a two point per game deduction given the EFL hasn't OFFICIALLY ruled it out, only that any match not played will be investigated from what I've readgil t azell wrote:Will this put any more pressure on SD?
