This article forms part of our Total Duds feature series, which is where Football Transfer Tavern takes a look at how a player has fared since being signed or sold, using statistical figures and statements from pundits to prove how bad a deal the club got.
Everton have had some disappointing transfers over the years, even if they didn’t always cost an absolute fortune.
That is the case with Aidan McGeady. By the time he arrived at Goodison Park, he was already into his ninth year as a professional, but he was something of a mercurial talent. He first made his name at Celtic, where he scored 32 goals and provided 48 assists in 200 matches, winning the Scottish Premiership on three separate occasions.
That led to a move to Spartak Moscow, of all places. He would spend four years with the Russian side, managing 28 assists and 13 goals in 93 matches.
When he moved to Merseyside, the Toffees will have been thinking they had got themselves a bargain considering they only had to pay £1.8m for his services. However, it never really worked for him at all at Goodison. He made just 43 appearances for Everton in the three years he spent at the club, and managed just one paltry goal.
It wasn’t long before he was out on loan at Preston North End and Sheffield Wednesday. He did score eight goals and create a further nine with the Owls, but it wasn’t enough to convince the Toffees to keep him, and in 2017 they sold the 92-time Republic of Ireland international to Sunderland for £252,000. After just 43 games, the Toffees made a loss of 86%.
27 goals in 98 matches for the Black Cats showed signs of what he has in the locker, but now at Charlton, he has just been relegated to League One. For a player who had so much promise, he perhaps hasn’t quite achieved the heights he should have done.

That's what you get with a big ego obviously a talent but sadly seems he can't get on with with managers and players.
