Sunderland’s pre-season campaign begins today as they take on Gateshead FC at the International Stadium, kick-off 3pm.
Phil Parkinson’s side have been back in training for three weeks now, and travel to the National League side for their first competitive game in over five months due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Summer signings Aiden O’Brien and Bailey Wright are both in contention, while academy products Brandon Taylor, Jake Hackett, Dan Neil and Anthony Patterson could all feature.
Lynden Gooch returns to the club he spent six-months on loan at back in 2015, and Jack Diamond could also play a part after returning to Wearside following the conclusion of his loan with Harrogate Town.
Morgan Feeney is available for selection after signing for the Lads yesterday, while stopper Remi Matthews will just miss out after also penning a deal at the Stadium of Light.
Gateshead did not have any time to dwell on their play-off disappointment and were back in pre-season action on Tuesday, when they drew 1-1 with Carlisle United.
Mike Williamson’s squad included eight trialists and it is likely to do so once again tomorrow, as the Black Cats take on unfamiliar opposition.

Trialist left back for SAFC looks a decent player also a very big lad and a solid unit.
Team for second half looks more pacey a lot more energy about them.
Diamond looks very clever on the ball.
Overall good run out for the lads no one seem to run out of steam so fitness levels look good.
Charlie Wyke did not look interested so he may be on his way hopefully

FT 3-1

Interesting second half with Willis Feeney and Trialist as back three, all impressive.
Excuse the pun, but we have found a Diamond!! Scowen and Power good pairing in the middle.

Left footed centre back, but looks happy in a back three. Feeney looked very comfortable too, which is good cover for the injury prone Bailey Wright

A win is a win.
That is the positive.

Gateshead are 3 divisions below Sunderland but still managed to score.
That is an  un-positive.
(I better not say negative)
