With the current restriction/easing of restrictions and localised lockdown measures around the U.K. how do you feel, what do you do, and what do you intend to do in the near future ?

Mrs. A and I have been virtually drinking (Skype) at our 'local' every saturday night since March with friends of ours that we met in there (Alum Ale House in 'Sheels, in case any of you know it) but we've (all 4 of us) taken a sizeable step for the last 2 Saturdays of actually drinking there [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Fortunately, they sell alcohol free Erdinger and Mrs. A quite likes it, 'cos we wouldn't use a taxi where the risk would be substantial (the taxis that we've seen picking people up and dropping them off there don't seem to be taking any precautions (no masks or shields/partitions between passengers and drivers) at all, which is bloody irresponsible) [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

When we go, we go early, before it gets too busy, with the idea that we may have to come straight home if it looks too busy and we wouldn't be able to find a suitable seat (or 4), or if we felt uncomfortable at any stage whilst there (inside, or out if the weather's okay) [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

This is a part of the calculated risks that we are taking, cautiously expanding our 'bubble' which we think is necessary to return to some level of normality [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

We wouldn't consider going abroad for some time yet, which makes things awful for us this month 'cos it'll be our Ruby Wedding Anniversary next Sunday and we can't do anything special [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Now read the first paragraph again and tell us a bit about your situation [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

To be honest apart from matchdays I rarely go out drinking

Apart from the last couple of weeks when my grand-daughter took me for a couple of pub lunches I have purposely kept well away from visiting any pubs as I still think it's a high risk...alcohol affects people's common sense...it's bad enough going shopping now as social distancing is virtually non existent

I know things need to get back to normal...but can things really be what we call normal again?

Will I go back into the SOL when we're allowed? I don't really know, probably not straight away.. I still think until we have some sort of vaccine nobody's safe, so at the moment I'm still pretty cautious when out and about especially on the odd occasion I've had to use public transport to get to work (when we've actually had work to do)

We're thinking that the virus isn't around this area anywhere near as much as it is elsewhere, so the risk is minimal, and as long as we're careful anyway the chances are that we'll be alright.

You're right about the effect of alcohol, which is why go early before the 'baddies' make things dangerous Wink

Interesting topic. I’m in a pub/hotel in Middleham N York’s,  and I feel as safe as houses because we are obeying the rules, if we catch the Luigi I’ll feel it’s just unfortunate and I’ve not been stupid.

Can’t say too much as her in doors has just turned the lights off and making odd noises.  It’s been a good night though.

What a topic this is and one that affects us all.

I dont drink so the pubs done affect me at all I do however go to the shops, well supermarket.
I can confirm that here in Spennymoor the pandemic is over, dont believe me then take a trip to Asda.

Masks...................YES
Social distancing....NO
All signs of virus...GONE

We are both in the high risk category with Annette being higher risk than me but we have made a big decision, we are going to Cyprus.

We are booking a private villa so alone in there and are hiring a car, we always do so the risks are reduced. If we end up having to isolate on our return its fine, we do anyway.
TBH I could do without it because its hard work for me but Annette is desperate to get away, sit in the sun, swim in the pool and relax and what Annette wants Annette usually gets, gave up the fight years ago.

I'm sure a new spike is just around the corner but I will be at the first game back If allowed.

I was in Asda yesterday talking to a mate of mine who's a security guard there, and he was whingeing about how many idiots weren't wearing masks and Asda not doing anything about it (apparently Asda, Morrison's and Tesco, the ones that we know about, are not enforcing the law).
At Asda they aren't even allowed to put up any warnings about it !

In Manchester we are not allowed to invite anybody into our house or garden but we are allowed to meet people in pubs and restaurants!! Try as I might I can’t think of the logic behind that rule.

Now that's just plain stupid. Sounds like the the idiots here you keep making stupid decisions only to be shown up and then change them so I live with hope your mob will do ultimately do the same there.

There's a bloke called Nick Forbes, who is apparently the leader of nocastle city council, just been on BBC Breakfast, and it's obvious by his trying to divide the country that he's a Labour councillor (I don't need to google him, 'cos it's obvious) . . . . what an absolute idiot Sad

He obviously doesn't realise that the new restrictions in the area are to protect us because of a massive increase in cases, caused mainly by idiots ignoring safety guidance !

I definitely recommend the holiday Syd.
Just back from Turkey and have to say I was nervous about going, and even after booking - 5 days before we went - still wasn't sure
It was really hot and having to wear masks all the time except when in hotel or in bar/ restaurant was uncomfortable, but got used to it, didn't detract from holiday and helped in feeling safe.
Sounds like you've got your plan for you and Annette to stay as safe as you can. Go fo it, relax and enjoy

Post  gil t azell on 2020-10-02, 5:45 pm

Been off work so had a few days in Harrogate and a few days in York purely trying to do my little bit for the hospitality trade and keeping bartenders employed.

I do not like wearing masks and apart from Dick Turpin I would imagine neither does anybody else. I wear them out of respect for other people although I fail to see any benefits to the wearer themselves. We breathe out Carbon Dioxide. Is all of this dissipated or not? Does it come back into your throat along with the fibres from the mask when they are moist or not? Out of curiosity does anyone know of any aged surgeons?

Social distancing. Once again I obey all the rules and do my utmost to comply with current regulations. I think it is virtually impossible to completely social distance but if we can reduce footfall then we are at least trying.

Checking in to pubs. What a pain. I have downloaded the "NHS track n trace" which has to be witnessed by a pub staff member every time. Fair enough. Then you need to scan the pubs app to order from the table. Once again we are reducing footfall so no problem. Gets a bit tiring on a pub crawl and your ability to comply with these downloads diminishes the more you drink Very Happy

Pubs are places to socialise and it is naff at the moment and unless somebody comes up with a super idea a lot more pubs and hotels are going to go to the wall.

The idiots are winning 😠

We've been back to virtual pub visits for a few weeks now, and we can't even estimate when we'll actually go to one at the moment 😞

This is mainly due to the aforementioned idiots that don't give a toss about others and to whom the rules obviously don't apply . . . . it seems to be just a joke to some, and I hope that at least the worst offenders find out that they're not immune a.s.a.p. before the decent amongst us suffer 'cos of their stupidity 👍
