A police officer has warned his force will consider roadblocks and searching shopping trolleys to stop lockdown flouters putting lives at risk.

Chief Constable Nick Adderley, of Northamptonshire Police, said his force would now ramp up the enforcement of coronavirus regulations.

Mr Adderley said the "three-week grace period is over", and people in the county could now face fines or a criminal record.

He said the force might have to resort to more extreme measures such as roadblocks and searching shopping should people continue to break the rules.

Downing Street has said that all shops that are permitted to remain open can sell all items which they have in stock.

This kind of mixed messaging really needs to be sorted out. [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

UK Police:“We will not at this stage be starting to marshal supermarkets and check-in the items in baskets and trolleys to see whether it is a legitimate necessary item but...if people do not head the warnings...we will start to do that” - @NorthantsChief [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

Searching shopping? F*ck off, daft c**ts.. Why are the shops selling these items if this berk deems them non essential?

Road blocks, fair enough, distancing... Fair enough.. Has to be done.

They can sod off with searching shopping though, how far do we go with this ffs?

Some of these police forces are making the rules up as they go along.. I'm telling anyone now, people will understand the need for certain restrictions, but expect the public to kick off if they go too far.

They need to remember, the police are here because we let them, we consent to it.

So you get your milk and bread, meat, sanatisers... And an Easter egg, and a few other items.

Is mr gestapo going to tell us that we can't buy them? This needs nipping in the bud now, before he starts making up these rules as he goes along.
