Michael Bridges. Some may remember Michael Bridges who played for Sunderland for a while. Decimated by injuries Michael had his career cut short and played for Hull City, went out on loan to Carlisle but could never recapture that form that made him a star larker. He eventually came to Australia playing for the Newcastle (no, nothing to do with the Black and White Spitoon) Jets where he made a favourable impression with the fans. He and his wife were very popular as they made themselves readily available for any promotional event. He took a desk job with the Jets for a while but then entered the Media World where he is currently assistant commentator for our Ethnic TV Station (and great promoters of Soccer in Australia) known as SBS. Here is Michael on TV where you will see him every Saturday here in Australia giving his views on the televised Premier League game. He has not lost his accent and is doing a mighty job:

Very interesting and I'm pleased he is doing well.

Maybe I am a nosy bastard but I do enjoy reading what happened to players when they stop playing.

A lot of them come to Oz for a "Swan-Song" end to their careers. They are what are called "Marquee Players" who are paid outside the limit of what Clubs are allowed to pay as they put 'bums on seats'. Robbie Fowler was one .

Was a great player - shame injuries wrecked his career. Glad he is happy and doing well in his post-football career.
