Remember him?

FORMER Sunderland defender John Mensah is one of three free agents to have joined West Ham on trial.

Mensah was released by Lyon during the summer after making just one appearance for the French outfit last season after returning from two injury-hit years on loan at Sunderland.

Celtic and Hull had been mooted as possible destinations for the Ghanaian, but the 29-year-old now has the opportunity to earn a contract with the Hammers.

Mensah is not alone though.

Ex-Manchester United and Arsenal centre-half Mikael Silvestre is also on trial after leaving Werder Bremen, while former Portsmouth midfielder Anthony vanden Borre is hoping to win a deal following his release by Belgian outfit Genk.
