Old age and memory, a bloody terrible combination so forgive me if I repeat myself.

Ever since I have had my present seat and season ticket I have sat behind a father and his two daughters, dont know there names but every game is the same.

Two daughters arrive, a nod and hello from both with a nice smile, both look married and with grown up families, nice ladies.

Then a little later comes in dad, at an age where a loo stop is needed before coming in. An elderly chap always with his baseball cap on and its always a big smile, wink and hello.

The Fulham game came and in came the daughters but they sat in the wrong seats, no dad, he had passed away.

The daughters told me he had been taken into hospital and was very unwell, dying and without hope but he hung on, would not go. Then the day after the Wigan game, the one that saw us safe, he passed away.

Maybe just a big coincidence, maybe, or was it he could not leave us without knowing his beloved Sunderland were safe?

Both sisters had moved along one with their season card seats, the youngest now sitting proudly in her dads seat, could not bear to see a stranger there.

Many none football people tell me its just a game, they dont have a fecking clue.

RIP the elderly man with no name, sleep well my friend.

Lovely story Syd, and what you say is so true; football is so much more than a game Like a Star @ heaven

Syd, have you not thought of inviting the ladies to join the forum, they sound like just the type of person we are looking for!

What, back in March at the match? To be honest, my strongest memory of that day is the referee's three big blunders!
