Colback to leave? Empty Colback to leave?

Some rate him, some don't.

Sunderland midfielder Jack Colback has turned down the chance to extend his contract and is set to leave the Stadium of Light.

Press Association Sport understands the club will reluctantly listen to offers for the 23-year-old after the academy graduate intimated he saw his future elsewhere.

Manager Paolo Di Canio had wanted to extend Colback's contract but with only 12 months now remaining on it the Black Cats would rather sell him now than allow him to leave for free.

Colback has been with Sunderland since the age of 10 but found opportunities in midfield difficult to come by last season and he played a chunk of the campaign as an emergency left-back.

Di Canio had hoped to give Colback more of a run in his preferred position, especially with the likely departure of Lee Cattermole this summer, but the player feels he needs a new challenge.

I'm a big Coleback fan but, if he wants out then out he goes.

Best it not be a local black and white, for his own sake.

The Sunderland Echos report, the Comments so far X 14, Are quite interesting. But not earth shattering. The one by OLDMAKEM made me smile.

Anyone see a pattern here? Mendy speaks to our negotiators - does a runner. Peruzzi speaks to our negotiators - does a runner. Jozi speaks to our negotiators -about to do a runner . Jack (the "Bally of his generation") speaks to our negotiators wants to do a runner. I'm not surprised - i went to Black Cat House to buy a season card about three weeks ago and after speaking to the lady behind the desk I went from very keen to also doing a runner. Wish it was all otherwise but there is definitely something wrong going on here. Attitude?

ATTITUDE ? I possibly question his attitude. perhaps the folks whose job it is to sell tickets could not be bothered,Very doubtful indeed, so blame PDC and his negotiators? Whats all that about?,,,, The only dead in the water deal is Mendys.

I agree with this, his attitude will suit Di Canios style so he could be a big player for us if he got stuck in, IMO

As stated elsewhere how has this come out when he's in Italy? Surely he would have opted out prior to flying out?
Strange!
