Seems to fit the bill Bobby, right age, experience and no doubt price.

We may have to learn some foreign swear words.

Transfer thread, completed deals, in & out and rumours - Page 10 Empty Re: Transfer thread, completed deals, in & out and rumours

Post  Guest on 2013-06-26, 4:33 pm

There were rumours earlier this month in England that Sunderland were looking to make a move for Lazio's Luis Pedro Cavanda. The 22 year old full back has been registered to the Rome club since 2007 but has spent his much of his early career out on loan, and even then he didn't get much game time. Cavanda appears to be a later developer and started to make a real Lazio breakthrough last year which has obviously caught the attention of Paolo Di Canio.
Di Canio is well known to be a Lazio fan and his relationship with the club's 'ultras' has often found him in hot water and the subject of several thousand word broadsheet articles coming to very little conclusion. There's no need to dwell on that again, but the fact he clearly supports Lazio will mean he watches them and he's obviously been impressed with the youngster.
It's hard to think he'd want to fall out with Lazio over a hostile move but Sunderland are obviously his priority and today's Corriere dello Sport says that negotiations have been going on between the two clubs to see if they can come to an agreement over Cavanda. That agreement hasn't been reached yet but that they've been speaking for some weeks does suggest there's a big interest, it's just a matter of Sunderland finding the level which Lazio are happy to sell at.
Phil Bardsley is on the look out for a new club, having gotten on the wrong side of the Italian manager, and Cavanda would be his replacement or at least compete for the position. The 22 year old started out with Standard Liege and has represented Belgium internationally at several levels up to the U21 side.
He can play right back or left back and would bring added versatility to the squad as Di Canio looks to strengthen ahead of the new season. The controversy of his appointed is now long forgotten by most and Sunderland will want to really kick-on. Cavanda's contract runs out next summer so it puts Lazio under a little pressure, they either agree a fee with a club during this window, get him to renew, or risk losing the player for absolutely nothing

SUNDERLAND’S finances should be further boosted over the next 48 hours, with Ahmed Elmohamady on the verge of completing his move to Hull City.

The Echo understands Elmohamady has agreed personal terms over a £2million switch to the newly-promoted Tigers after a successful loan spell at the KC Stadium last season.

There remain a few minor issues before the deal is finalised, but the winger’s switch is expected to be confirmed before the end of the week.

Elmohamady’s sale will take the total money recouped by Sunderland this week to £11m after the departure of goalkeeper Simon Mignolet, with the Belgian’s move to Liverpool potentially earning the Black Cats another £2m in add-ons.

Hull’s former Sunderland boss Steve Bruce has been keen to land Elmohamady on a permanent basis since promotion to the Premier League was assured, with the Tigers triggering the £2m figure agreed when the Egyptian first joined the club on loan last August.

There was a question mark over whether Sunderland head coach Paolo Di Canio would want a closer look at Elmohamady after his departure was authorised by predecessor Martin O’Neill.

But it is understood that a return to the Stadium of Light was never raised as a viable possibility and Di Canio was happy to sanction Elmohamady’s exit as part of the overhaul of Sunderland’s squad.

The £11m banked by the Black Cats has significantly boosted Sunderland’s muscle in the transfer market and that figure could continue to rise with the club willing to listen to offers for the likes of Stephane Sessegnon and Lee Cattermole.

Sunderland are yet to seal a big-money deal for a new recruit, with the club’s incomings so far this summer limited to Bosmans Valentin Roberge, Modibo Diakite and Cabral, together with development squad additions El-Hadji Ba, Duncan Watmore and David Moberg Karlsson.

But Sunderland are understood to be pleased with the progress they have made with their recruitment drive so far and believe they are in a far more advanced position than this time last summer, when the £22m double-signing of Adam Johnson and Steven Fletcher was finally concluded after the Premier League was underway.

The money recouped from the sales of Mignolet and Elmohamady puts Sunderland in a stronger position in the chase for their main targets too.

AZ Alkmaar striker Jozy Altidore is expected to command a fee in excess of £5m, as is Inter Milan midfielder Alfred Duncan – the subject of a failed bid by the Black Cats earlier this month.

Inter are thought to be willing to sell the highly-rated Duncan, but Sunderland would need to make an offer around the £7m mark for the Ghana international.

SUNDERLAND’S hopes of luring Czech Republic striker Matej Vydra to Wearside have received a boost after Udinese rejected an £8million bid from Werder Bremen for the player – and his agent claimed he is “likely” to move to the Premier League instead.
However, the Black Cats have been warned they face competition from West Brom, West Ham and Swansea City for the 21-year-old.
Vydra scored 22 goals on loan for Watford last season and was named Championship Player of the Year.
However, the Hornets’ failure to win promotion, and thus secure vast top-flight income, means owner Giampaolo Pozzo has refused to sanction a permanent switch of the player from Udinese, the Serie A club he also owns.
The Journal revealed last week that, with new chief scout Valentino Angeloni having previously held the same position at the Italian outfit, Sunderland had enquired about the forward’s availability.
Following further talks with Pozzo, Vydra’s agent Ondrej Chovanec insists he has been authorised to formally open negotiations over a potential temporary transfer with four Premier League clubs.
“We agreed that none of the offers (for a permanent transfer) are in the region that would interest Udinese,” said Chovanec.

He said: “They don’t want to sell him for £8million, so they have given us freedom to discuss loan spells with the Premier League clubs that are interested.
“At the moment we have
offers from four Premier League clubs – West Brom, West Ham, Swansea and Sunderland.
“At Udinese they don’t want Matej to have to get used to life in a different country, so now it seems likely he will be playing on in England.”
Sunderland have already lined up six new signings this summer, Moberg Karlsson, Cabral, Valentin Roberge, Modibo Diakite, El-Hadji Ba and Duncan Watmore set to arrive at the Stadium of Light when the transfer window opens on Monday.
Bids are also understood to have been lodged for Inter Milan’s Alfred Duncan and Lazio’s Pedro Cavanda, with sources in Italy claiming negotiations for the latter remain ongoing.
Paolo Di Canio is on the lookout for a new full-back after telling Phil Bardsley to find a new club.
However, should attempts to reach agreement with his former club over Cavanda fail, sources in France suggest Sunderland have an interest – along with Arsenal, Cardiff City, Marseille and Lyon – in Le Havre full-back Benjamin Mendy.
The 18-year-old was thought to be close to a move to Juventus.
However, Mendy’s club have opened discussions with several unnamed English clubs and the player himself is keen on a move to the Premier League.
Le Havre president Jean Pierre Louvel said: “We are talking to clubs and the talks with English teams are going better than others.
“He is most likely going to go and play in England.”
Mendy said: “I have always dreamed of playing in England, so am happy to be linked with English clubs.
“I know it is a big step to go there, but if you want to progress in Europe you need to play at the top level.”
Meanwhile, though reports in Italy claim Sunderland are considering QPR keeper Julio Cesar as a replacement for Simon Mignolet, they are unlikely to match the 33-year-old Brazilian’s £80,000-a-week wages.

Swansea have agreed a deal for Vitesse Arnhem striker Wilfried Bony, according to the player's agent.

Bony has been linked with a host of English clubs following his goalscoring exploits for Vitesse over the last couple of seasons.

The likes of Newcastle, Sunderland and Arsenal have been linked with moves for the Ivory Coast international, but Swansea are hoping to win the race for Bony's signature.

Swansea boss Michael Laudrup has made a new striker one of his top priorities this summer as he looks to ease the goalscoring burden on last season's top scorer Michu.

Bony's agent, Francis Kacou, has claimed the 24-year-old is on the verge of a move to the Liberty Stadium, with only minor details to be sorted.

"For how many years? We still have to work out that part. Hopefully more will be clear today."

"Bony will go to Swansea," Kacou told Dutch newspaper de Gelderlander.

"For how many years? We still have to work out that part. Hopefully more will be clear today."

Swansea are believed to have agreed a fee in the region of €12million (£10.2million) for the highly-rated forward and his signing would be something of a coup for Laudrup.

Sunderland are close to sealing the signing Argentina right-back Gino Peruzzi, 21, who shot to prominence with Velez Sarsfield after he kept Neymar quiet over both legs of a Copa Libertadores tie.

MARSEILLE are unlikely to offer an escape route for Stephane Sessegnon, with the French club operating to a strict recruitment model this summer.

As the Echo revealed earlier this week, Sunderland are ready to listen to offers for Sessegnon, just 10 months after handing the Benin international a new deal at the Stadium of Light.

Marseille have been mooted as possible suitors for Sessegnon, who is thought to be keen on remaining in Europe, despite interest from Chinese clubs Shanghai Shenhua and Tianjin Teda – the latter now conceding that a deal is a long shot.

But sources in France have played down the chances of a potential move to Provence for Sessegnon.

Marseille’s three main summer targets are understood to be Rennes midfielder Romain Alessandrini, Sporting Lisbon wideman Diego Capel and Lille winger Dimitri Payet, with an agreement on the verge of being secured for the latter.

Their guidelines for subsequent signings are either young French players with the potential to be developed and sold-on for a profit, or experienced performers available on reasonable wages.

Sessegnon, who turned 29 earlier this month, doesn’t fall into either category, even if a move to a club plying their trade in next season’s Champions League would hold obvious appeal.

The former Paris St-Germain forward is on a lucrative salary at the Stadium of Light after being handed a new contract by Martin O’Neill last August which ties him to the Black Cats until the summer of 2015.

And despite impressing in the Premier League during his two-and-a-half years with Sunderland, Sessegnon would offer little re-sale value to any new employers.

Marseille would also have to shell out a significant transfer fee for Sessegnon.

Sunderland are unlikely to allow Sessegnon to depart for anything less than the £6million they paid PSG in January 2011 and have stressed that he will not be pushed out of the door at the Stadium of Light.

While Sunderland are willing to dispense with Sessegnon’s services and boost Paolo Di Canio’s forward line with a different type of attacking option, the club will only sell if their valuation is met.

..........................

Don't think Sess will be going anywhere.

I suspect it is a case of calling Sess's or his agents bluff! Every season there seems this whinge about him wanting away...so give us £10m or whatever and he can go!

I like the Tom Huddlestone rumour a lot.

He doesn't look lightweight. Quite the opposite, I would say. I have looked on 2 other sites and ESPN FC stats have him at 80kg (12st 8lbs) and Soccernet say he is 1.91m (6'3") and 78.46 kg (12st 4lbs). He may well have been 71kg at 16/17 when he made his debut of course!

I have always liked this lad. He always looks strong and can place a fabulous pass and I am sure he would benefit from playing more regularly.
