Sometimes you just have to be in the right place at the right time..

AC Milan sign 10-year-old girl after scouting her on family holiday

Every football-crazy youngster has the same dream – you’re having a holiday kick around and a scout from a big club spots you. But for for ten-year-old Aisha Saini it came true while she was in Spain with her family.

She took part in what they thought was a sports tournament to keep her occupied in the resort of La Manga.

They did not realise the event had been arranged by AC Milan – and after five days, scouts from the Italian giants asked permission to sign her up to their European academy annual tournament.

The young midfielder will now join a handful of selected youngsters from similar summer camps across the continent. Aisha will also become the first girl to play in the tournament in October.

Her father, Michael, 44, a roofing business owner, said: ‘We are so proud of her. We just enrolled her to keep her busy because we thought she might be bored. I couldn’t believe it when it turned out scouts from Milan were watching.

‘The scouts said they have never asked a girl to join their academy before but they saw her play and knew immediately she would be able to hold her own among a load of boys.’
Aisha said: ‘I didn’t know the coaches were watching me until they told us after the final training session.’

AC Milan academy’s head coach Daniele Paccagnan spotted the skills Aisha has honed while playing for her youth club in Lenzie, East Dunbartonshire.
He said: ‘We were amazed how strong she was. More importantly, she has excellent control and technique, and her attitude during practice was fantastic.’

As a product of the Milan summer camp, Aisha is in exalted company – legends like Paolo Maldini came up the same way.
