England Goalkeeper! Empty England Goalkeeper!

To say I am angry is the understatement of the Century! John Ruddy has had an excellent first season in the prem. Chosen for the Euros but cruelly denied by a broken finger. In the squad for tonight, Joe Hart out injured, so a shoe-in for his first cap!

But.... hold on, Roy decides in his wisdom to give the gloves to Butland! He who has never even played in the Championship, he's played a handful of games for League Two Cheltenham Town!

I'm sorry, I know you'll say I'm biassed, but that is downright disrespectful to John Ruddy, and to Norwich City!

I hope Butland makes a string of cock-ups that destroy his confidence in the manner of Scot Carson!

Rant over, apologies!

Agree that Ruddy should be in ahead of him, but I wouldn't wish the Scott Carson experience on anybody. It is not his fault that Roy has selected him and I hope he does well.

Hart is No1 by a distance so we are only talking about who will be the future benchwarmer.

I don't wish anything bad on Butland, it was just my anger and frustration taking over, but if he does drop a few clangers, it could do untold harm to his future!

In the dim and distant days of my youth I also was a keeper and a lot of that game is about confidence.

I once had a shocker and let a ball that was coming straight at me somehow squirm through my arms and go in. As it happened it was offside and didn't count but my confidence was instantly shot and it took me weeks to get that back. That was in front of a crowd of one man and his dog and Sky had decided against picking that match up (it was at Gateshead Fell on a Sunday morning) so I didn't have the analysts telling me just how bad a mistake it was.

If Butland makes a mess of things tonight he will have people reminding of it for the rest of his career!
