Egypt court sentences 21 to death for football stadium disaster

An Egyptian court has sentenced to death 21 people accused of involvement in the Port Said football stadium disaster in which 74 people were killed last year.
The judge read out a list of 21 names who had been "referred to the Mufti", a phrase used to denote a death verdict as all such sentences must reviewed by Egypt's top religious authority.
The court was ruling in the case of 73 people charged with involvement in the disaster, which happened on 1 February 2012.
The verdicts for others in the case will be announced on 9 March.
Elsewhere, unrest has continued in Cairo a day after thousands of Egyptians took to the streets to deliver an angry backlash against President Mohammed Mursi and his Muslim Brotherhood.
A group of men were seen throwing stones over a wall in the capital, while tear gas canisters were fired into the streets.
Two years after protesters first rose up against and toppled Hosni Mubarak, the new phase of Egypt's upheaval has been on display: the struggle between ruling Islamists and their opponents, played out against the backdrop of a worsening economy.
Rallies turned to clashes in multiple cities around Egypt yesterday.
At least six people, including a 14-year-old boy, were killed in the northern city of Suez, where protesters set ablaze a building that once housed the city's local government.
Another person died in clashes in Ismailia, another Suez Canal city east of Cairo.
At least 480 people were injured nationwide, the Health Ministry said, including five with gunshot wounds in Suez, raising the possibility of a higher death toll.
Mr Mursi this morning called on Egyptians to express their views "peacefully and freely", without violence.
Writing on his Twitter account, he offered his condolences to the families of those killed and pledged to bring the culprits to justice.
