Play offs at best it looks like
4 games in December then the transfer window opens. will we spend will it be early or do the usual and wait for the last day cheapies. I thought we had hit the bottom, but apparently not.
I am not going to play the blame game, its futile to do so.

I'd forget the playoffs if I were you. We have got worse under Parkinson. Last night was abysmal. Utter garbage. Something has to change and I can't see decent players queing up in January to join us.wanderer wrote:4 games in December then the transfer window opens. will we spend will it be early or do the usual and wait for the last day cheapies. I agree with both of you - listening on the radio I had brief hope when we got the penalty and the fans did try to get behind the team at times, but after giving away a goal immediately after we scored I knew we would lose the game. No idea where to go from hereKipper wrote:I'd forget the playoffs if I were you. We have got worse under Parkinson. Last night was abysmal. Utter garbage. Well you can basically say Bolton and Southend are down so that leaves one spot.
Can't see us making the play offs, mid table at best but relegation a reality on these latest performances.
Most of these players are JR's signings are they not?
This will be no quick fix for sure and recruitment in January will not make much difference to where we are at now.
We are just, unfortunately a badly run club have been for a few seasons now.

I am finding it hard to think of anything to say in support of Parky, obviously. But I still think it was right to get rid of Ross, but he should have gone straight after the playoff final. Its quite right to say we are in a mess a f*cking big one at that.
All we hear is he is shit that one is shit and they are shit. Who brought them here, cant blame Parky for that. No, what is wrong here is much deeper than that. Can Donald sort it im not sure.

I keep hearing folk saying hang in until the January window opens, but do we have any money to attract even half decent division 3 players? We certainly don't have any assets to sell to finance any dealings. Clubs aren't going to sell to us cheaply, look at the Will Grigg fiasco. Worrying times.

Just about says it all for me. Except at my age there is not a lot that SAFC can do to knock more stuffing out of me. In my case I am beyond the worrying stage and have become almost disinterested.maghater wrote:I keep hearing folk saying hang in until the January window opens, but do we have any money to attract even half decent division 3 players? Without getting too far into the nuts and bolts for fear of repetition, the owners could prove to be the weakest link.

JR was in charge from May 2018 - October 2019
in the 18/19 season we signed players costing a total of approx £4m with nearly all of that being spent on Grigg.... we sold players and raised approx. £23m so a net of +£19m with most of the signings being loans or free transfers
in the 19/20 season we have spent nothing / nada /zilch and sold players for approx. £2m (with 2 of our few remaining decent quality players going on free transfers due to wage issues)
so if over two seasons we sell £25m worth of players and spend £4m then its not really surprising if the quality of the squad dips massively - so while JR has brought in most of the squad (and they are certainly failing to rip up the league) they are nearly all loans or free transfers and players other teams didn't want - who exactly was he supposed to bring in with no funds available to him that was going to turn the club around?

Re: Play offs at best it looks like
Mid table for us I'm afraid.
Was there v Burton and as Gary Bennet stated that night on the radio who will want any of our present squad and not until you ship some out will they be replaced he also said the team has got no real pace running through the squad and why are we playing long ball football to a striker of Griggs stature.
And just to add a mate of mine who supports Bolton told me Parkinson games is quick long ball football.
So the future is not bright with this manager

Re: Play offs at best it looks like
I seem to recall a certain bloke took us over at Xmas one time and we were bottom of the league. We got promoted. Still loads of time to sort it out.
I am more for blaming the players as opposed to the manager at the moment. He has either inherited a poor team, a dispirited team or the players are complete w*nkers, totally unprofessional and not trying. At this time I am opting for the latter.
Do we not even give the bloke a transfer window. He has already said he wants players coming in with pace and power. My God that is far too sensible. Every fan knows that is what we have needed for a long long time.
At the moment and for the foreseeable future I am a Parky in.

Toatally agree they are useless (or not trying, in Griggs case never has) hence I say we give him this transfer window at least.Vincemac wrote:Yehgil t azell wrote:I seem to recall a certain bloke took us over at Xmas one time and we were bottom of the league. Aye, let him bring in players who are more used to playing his hoof ball.
What a good idea

Re: Play offs at best it looks like
Trouble is, we have players used to wide attacking with overlapping fullbacks. And a manager who prefers long ball game. Result chaos.
Something has to give. PDQ.

Re: Play offs at best it looks like
The hoofball tactic will get us nowhere near promotion.
The defenders in this league are used to it, getting crosses in, and passing it along the ground is a better tactic to aim to get promoted.
This hoof style will get us closer to the bottom

Re: Play offs at best it looks like
Unfortunately this is the way UK players play & given the pressure to win, acceptance of patient procession based football is rare outside of the EPL. Pacey players onto through balls or set-pieces for the CB's to attack dominatesSteve30000 wrote:The hoofball tactic will get us nowhere near promotion.
