Peter Kenyon also held talks with the investment firm MSD Partners, who are close to buying Newcastle's north-east rivals Sunderland. (Mail)

Sunderland's takeover by an American consortium is "in the balance", according to The Sun. Black Cats owner Stewart Donald has been in talks with MSD Partners over the last month but the New York firm are "still haggling over some of the details of the deal" and there are now fears it could collapse.

Yes. Donald has confirmed it's blx and is most displeased at The Sun's negative reporting an Sunderland.

STEWART DONALD wants £40million as part of the sale of Sunderland.
The club owner has been close to a deal with the American-based MSD Partners for weeks.
But the extra demand for what amounts to TWO promotion bonuses is proving one of many problems.
Black Cats chief Donald has valued the League One club at around £50m but is after almost the same amount if they made it to the Premier League.
He wants £15m if they get back to the Championship and a further £25m should they make the top flight.
The Americans, whose money was made in the Dell business, do not think the figures compute with their own ideas.

And the group do not see why they should pay Donald and the other current shareholders if they turn the club around and take it to the promised land with their cash and plans. (The Sun)

And here's me thinking it was investment and not a total takeover.
