That was great

Oberservations:

Short shorts.

Size of the Roker End!

Tiny dugouts.

Stokoe mac and hat.

Players hairstyles.

Commentator and presenter of MOTD speak 'posh'.

'Action replay's' were actually tape being rewound so weren't instant like now.

You'll never walk alone before Liverpool appropriated it echoing round Roker Park.

None of the chants (i could hear anyway) were foul mouthed.

Were there any women in the crowds apart from behind the dugout - probably players wives?

Were any of you there?

Hearing Bob Stokoe brought a tear to my eye - what a hero to Sunderland and a great man.

But biggest difference from now and then for me was the players looked like 'ordinary' people. Yes they had fit male body shapes but nowhere near the muscled, athletic, toned 'perfection' we see these days.

Yes women were there but not in big numbers, one big improvement today

Yes

Bobby still goes to most games and is still an ordinary guy, no swagger about him at all.

Great to relive those memories. Of course after that I watched the Man City games even though on You Tube you can hardly see what is going on in the replay at Roker. Then the Arsenal game and obviously, even though I have the video, the Leeds match.

I was at all the cup matches except the Reading replay because I couldn't get time off work. I was at Maine Road on the Saturday, went up to Roker on the Sunday. Stood in the queue, got my ticket and then they shut the gate behind me!!!!

I thoroughly enjoyed that, Barrow, especially reminiscing about the atmosphere that we used to have (that'll never be the same again, unfortunately) . . . . I was there (in front of the first barrier at the back, right in the middle of 'the cage' in the Fulwell End Wink

Cheers Barrow [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

great watch - my first game would have been around '77 when my dad took me, my nan used to live round the corner on Givens Street

haha at the end "crowd of 53,000 resulted in money of over £26,000" - so that would pay for about 5 minutes of a single premiership footballer's wage Smile
