SUNDERLAND V AFC Wimbledon Empty SUNDERLAND V AFC Wimbledon

Post  cyprussyd on 2019-08-21, 8:09 am

Well on Saturday we go again, this time at home and a 15.00 KO, bit like the old days.

I would guess that Ross only has one decision to make, if Mcnulty is fit does he come back in?

I would suggest that would be a no and we start with the same 11 with Wyke leading the line but we found out on Tuesday the big plus, the advantage of a strong bench.

Everything crossed I will make this game, looking forward to it.

Gone are the days when we think we are going to steamroll teams in this division but we are building steam and I expect that to build some more.
I'm always an advocate of keeping a winning team but Mcnulty has impressed so if he is fit its over to Ross to make the big decisions as he is paid well to do.

If McNulty is fit, bring him in to replace Gooch. Wyke is working hard to justify his place and Gooch was poor last night.

I will make the game on Saturday, if we lose will it be my fault?

I used to be terrible for all that stuff - have to wear certain colour pants/socks for a match, go through a certain routine etc. Last year I realised that that no matter what colour pants I wear, we were going to draw Smile . What I do has very little influence on the result funnily enough. Syd - get to the match and show your support -  that's the only influence you'll have. Those who boo can stay away. Gordon's 2nd line is right  - we will win no matter what.

Makes no difference we will win.

I would lke to see maybe 4-4-1-1 at home with Wyke knocking the ball down for McNulty to get a goal or two each and the other midfielders scoring all our other goals. Now that McNulty is out I think we will be limited to just scoring 4. Its a shame but it will have to do.

3-1 - Maguire hat trick and a good all round performance from what I heard - let a goal in again but never mind the end result is what counts

I think I read somewhere that because money is tight, Maguire had to buy the match ball  Laughing

Best all round performance for a long long time, a good game for our new owners to enjoy.

Jon McLaughlin 6/10:

Distributed the ball well and barely had a save to make.

Luke O’Nien 6/10:

At fault for the goal, but contributed well going forward.

Jordan Willis 7/10:

Dealt well with Wimbledon’s rare forrays forward with relative ease.

Alim Ozturk 8/10:

Looks a completely different player from the one banished to the reserves last summer. His passing has come on leaps and bounds this season.

Denver Hume 6/10:

Looked nervy early on, but started to showcase his great dribbling and some improved passing after he settled down.

Max Power 5/10:

His decision-making and quality in the final third was lacking - Power did get through some important defensive work, but needs to show more passing quality to maintain his place in the team.

Grant Leadbitter 7/10:

Looked leggy off the ball at times, but once again proved a real asset with his tempo-setting passing.

Lynden Gooch 6/10:

Was tidy in possession and used the ball more effectively than at Rochdale, but rarely looked threatening in front of goal.

Aiden McGeady 7/10:

Came to life in the second half, creating problems and helped increase the quality of chances Sunderland were creating.

Chris Maguire 9/10:

The hattrick hero, scored three very different, but vital goals for the lads.

Charlie Wyke 8/10:

Battled well and showed great quality whenever Sunderland went direct towards him.

(SUB) Will Grigg 5/10:

Missed a golden chance to seal the game and looked lethargic in his attempts to retain possession.

(SUB) Dylan McGeouch 6/10:

Put Sunderland on the back foot with a lazy pass immediately after being brought on, redeemed himself with tireless defensive work afterwards.

(SUB) George Dobson - n/a

Barely involved in a ten minute cameo.

Man of the Match: Chris Maguire
