It's now very simple for Sunderland, same again please in attitude and commitment.

The important and fantastic thing for we fans is that we know that we have a squad that can change the starting 11 but still get that fight.

Our engine room of Catts and Leadbitter have been immense but neither was missed last night because their replacements were good.

And IMO the biggest plus of the night was the forgotten Sterling.

No easy games but I now just expect three points because we have a squad of winners.

Always said the strength of the squad was a huge bonus and it looks like it is beginning to tell.

5 changes came in last night and although they were poor we played well with a team with a few 1st teamers rested. Its looking good.

Now listen you lot, all these them to lose stuff, we are Sunderland, can you tell me the last time we ended a season relaxed, shredded nerves, bitten fingernails and medication is the Sunderland way.

We will travel to Southend on the last day needing a draw, a win is to clinical but a draw, do we go for it or play for a 0-0, add loo paper to the list.

After Wednesday nights fine performance and result would you start the same 11 or bring back Catts, Leadbitter or both?

Saturday 6th April Rochdale away Empty Re: Saturday 6th April Rochdale away

Post  cyprussyd on 2019-04-05, 12:57 pm

The weekend is here and Sunderland’s promotion bid for set for another examination, with Rochdale ready and waiting.

  • Watch: Jack Ross' Rochdale press conference

  • Team news: The latest on McGeady's fitness

Wednesday’s win over Accrington Stanley was sweet. In a game where the Lads went into it with the pressure sky high, after last Sunday’s penalty shootout defeat to Portsmouth in the Checkatrade Trophy Final, Jack Ross’ side showed plenty of grit and resolve as they brushed aside their opponents at the Wham Stadium.
Aiden McGeady smacked home a beauty with just four minutes on the clock to give Sunderland a deserved advantage after they flew out the traps, with Will Grigg and Charlie Wyke both going close in the opening minutes.
Grigg got his goal, though. An unorthodox route one punt down field from stopper Jon McLaughlin bounced kindly for the striker and the striker oozed class as he rolled the ball through the ‘keepers’ legs to double the lead on the stroke of half-time.
Second-half substitute Kaz Sterling then had the red and white army smiling once more as he bagged his first goal in senior football to round off a pleasing night for the Lads.
Now just three points off Barnsley with two games in hand – the race for promotion is on.
Up next, Rochdale…
Sitting 23rd in the table, Dale have had a turn of fortunates recently under the caretaker stewardship of Brian Barry-Murphy and are unbeaten in their last four matches having taken eight points.
Prior to that, a run of 12 games where they had taken just four points, led to the sacking of Keith Hill, left them in the relegation zone with seven games to game.
Unbeaten in the league since December, Ross’ side will be targeting maximum points once more with Luton Town playing play-off contenders Blackpool and Barnsley away at Burton Albion.
Sunderland remain without Lee Cattermole and Reece James while there’s some doubt over the fitness of Aiden McGeady who went off at half-time on Wednesday.
Chris Maguire, Adam Matthews and Duncan Watmore remain out as well.
DON’T MISS THE ACTION
Sunderland take on Rochdale at Spotland at 3pm on Saturday afternoon.
Streaming passes are also on sale now.
BBC Radio Newcastle’s Nick Barnes will be broadcasting live right here on safc.com from 7pm.
As ever, there will be comprehensive coverage across our digital channels including safc.com’s matchday blog and live updates on Twitter via @SunderlandAFC.

McGeady a concern going into tomorrow's game. George Honeyman back available. Catts, James, Matthews, Watmore and Maguire all ruled out.

Rochdale may be having a mini revival but they are 2nd off bottom. It would be a big shock if we dont win.

Yes we have injuries but the lads who came in against Accrington played as well if not better than the usual first 11. I expect the same result although being greedy I would like 5-0 just to put us ahead of Barnsleys goal difference.

Easy to say but harder to do but, play with the same commitment and desire as Wednesday and we will win.

A win please. Any win. It would be great to score loads and put on a great performance but I'd take any win and that's the case for the rest of the season.

Your right. I would settle for all 1-0 wins whether they be own goals, bouncing in off somebodies buttocks, howlers or cracking screamers.
