This is a great article that warms the heart. I know it is about money really, and we create lots of profit for other clubs and local businesses, but knowing our fans are welcome anywhere is fantastic and makes me even more proud of my club. Let's keep it like this and make sure those few idiots that all football clubs attract do not spoil our reputation as the best fans in the league.

'Best behaved fans in League One' - Sunderland supporters praised by opposition club owner
Rochdale's CEO David Bottomley has praised Sunderland fans in explaining why extra tickets have been allocated for Sunderland's visit there

Rochdale owner David Bottomley says information from police and other League One clubs suggest that Sunderland fans are the best behaved in League One.
Bottomley sang the praises of Black Cats fans as he explained to his own supporters why they had decided to increase Sunderland's away ticket allocation, asking some Dale fans to relocate from their usual match day seat as a result.
Rochdale would usually offer opposition supporters just over 3,500 tickets for a trip to Spotland Stadium, but Bottomley has given the Black Cats over 4,000 for the April 6 League One clash.
Explaining the decision, he said: "The police intelligence says that the Sunderland fans are the best behaved fans in League One and they genuinely mean that and the police that we deal with take intelligence from all over the UK.

"We have had one [Sunderland] fan contact us and say that it is beer and banter they are coming for and the police have confirmed that every away ground they have been to this year from Plymouth to Wycombe to Bradford, there has been no trouble because Sunderland fans are not a trouble-making club.
"They are a club whose supporters go to away grounds to enjoy themselves and watch football."
The comments about Sunderland fans, who regularly sell-out their away allocations, should be welcomed in a time where supporter behaviour inside stadia around the country is under the microscope. That follows the shocking incident a week ago when a Birmingham fan was charged with assault after getting on to the pitch and attacking Aston Villa player Jack Grealish.

It wasn't just the police that the Lancashire club took advice from, however. Bottomley says past opponents have been quick to praise the behaviour of Black Cats fans too.
"Other clubs in the league, Wycombe and Bradford - in particular - who have given over sections of their home season ticket areas to Sunderland have reported no incidents whatsoever," Bottomley continued.
"Plymouth Argyle, who we were with the other week, again said to us that they wish they had played Sunderland every week. They were the best fans, they spent the most and they left happy."
Before the trip to Rochdale though, Sunderland have the small matter of a Checkatrade Trophy final at Wembley though, where 40,000 fans will make the trip to the capital. They also have a league trip to Accrington scheduled, although the state of the Wham Stadium pitch is causing concerns for that fixture.

Many of us already know that but it’s great to be acknowledged by the ‘powered that be’.

It’s a great pity that other clubs fans including mine don’t behave as you do.

Probably because few SunderMadders go to away games, their tags stops them from travelling out of the area.

It's a little know fact, well facts but

  • H no longer goes to home games because her tag restricts her to Northumberland.
  • Silvers did go once last season but his streak earned him a life time ban
  • Then we have a wee gaggle of trouble makes. kipper, vinkle, barrow, black fox, lever are not allowed to travel south.
  • BCK and Noz cant come home following their deportation.
  • Gil thinks he at an away game because one pub is very much like another.

Of course these true facts are hidden by the owners
