I remember Bert.

Played on in a cup final despite a fractured neck..
No subs in those days.

Thanks Cretan,  I was aware of the film and plan to watch it.  I know a fair amount of his life already but really looking forward to this.  What a character,  breaking his neck at Wembley and still carrying on,  I’ve seen a few clips of that game and it’s clear he was in agony but stayed on as there were no subs allowed in those days.

He was in contention to have a stand named after him at the Etihad but it ended up being the Colin Bell stand.  He’s still very fondly remembered by all City fans though and probably by anybody that met him.

I’m far far too young to have seen him play (Very Happy) but I did meet him once at Villarreal.  It was after the match and I saw a big crowd surrounding him, shaking his hand and taking selfies.  I’m not really into ‘celebs’ but I couldn’t resist joining in.  Sadly it didn’t go as planned as being slightly under the influence I had my mobile facing the wrong way and didn’t realise until I got on the coach.

He lived in Valencia then and had travelled to the match by himself, I don’t know how old he was then but he was still a big imposing fella but with a very friendly nature.

Just a thought but it wouldn’t go amiss if all modern day footballers were made to watch the film.

Love the idea that you took a pic and when trying to show people realised you had taken a selfie Laughing Laughing Laughing

Haha. It was worse than that,  I had my arm round him and was trying to take a selfie of us both.  The actual photo was of a load of drunken City fans.  Embarassed
