David, David, David, time for some honest tough talking.

At our age death becomes a reality, it will come sooner rather than later and that my freind is something we cant escape. Your health has placed you in a difficult position, you know it's coming but just can't be sure when.

At 70 I also know it's coming and like you I dont know when. My body tells me its starting to change and without going into gory details I can hear what it is telling me, no blood in pee but certainly changes to bowels and bladder. My legs are a constant concern to Annette, my left on is swelling and my right one is getting very thin from the knee down.

I am told to see my GP, I wont, not because I am scared but because until it becomes an absolute necessity I have no interest in finding out what is wrong, we are all different, no right or wrong in my mind just different.

You cant do a lot about death mate, you have decided to do what you can with the treatment you are starting soon but somehow, its not easy but somehow all you and I can do is live each day, do what we can to enjoy each day. I enjoy the freedom to do sod all most days, often I am tired at 8 at night so go to bed and get up again at 1 in the morning, enjoy the quiet and play solitaire. Then back to bed, today it was 10 when I got up.

Other love being busy and that's fine, what we do for me is not important, doing what we enjoy is.

When my time comes it comes and that will be that, I only have one hope, that Annette goes before me, I will be fine alone, Annette wont.

I cant take away your worry Dave, dont think anyone can and I may not have helped but, you are not alone, even though I;m sure you often feel you are.

When all else fails drink malt and say f*ck them all, I have made it to the end of another day, soon to be another year. That's a success.

You are both so very right. I'm resigned to the fact that I have not got that long to go and yes, every day is a triumph

I will plough on and what will be  will be!
