Walsall v Sunderland

Post  cyprussyd on 2018-11-17, 6:57 pm

Walsall v Sunderland
Sat 24 Nov
Bescot Stadium
KO 15.00

The relentless season continues with a visit to Walsall who sit in 11th place.

Ross has some selection headaches with Oviedo, Maja and Power looking good from the bench, he could also have Cattermole back.

I think this and the Barnsley match could be very tricky. I would take 3 points now from these 2 games.

I am in Laaaandaaan for the Barnsley game. Extremely bad planning on my behalf.

Certainly of the three players that came on yesterday i could see Maja and Power come in....James did well but Oviedo offers more on the attacking front... one from Honeyman,Gouch and McQuire could possibly make way for Cattermole...decisions decisions for Jack Ross

I suspect there will be a mini-reshuffle after yesterday.. Maja and Power to start.. Catts if fit may come on as an early sub as he recovers from injury.

Personally I would have Ovideo as a starter also.

On another thread I mention I wonder about McGeady

I would be tempted to persevere with McGeady...a few around me picked up on anything he did wrong, but I didn't hear them praise him when he did something well....I don't think he was any worse than Gouch,Honeyman or McQuire yesterday....instead of playing in a fixed position could we not get the best out of him by giving him a free reign just behind the striker?

I wonder if generally he was told to stay up front and in the main not to go in his own half? It would mean setting up differently with another player covering/backing up our LB

Know Walsall's centre forward Andy Cook well, he played for Barrow for 3 seasons before his move to Tranmere. no great pace but good in the air and deffo knows where the goal is.

Catts plays well at this level.

He has been hit by injury, season after season.

The history of injuries I think will be to our advantage.

Who will pay Premiership / Championship wages for a player who struggles for appearances over a season ?

10 seasons with Sunderland / about 217 games...

But it is to our advantage to hold on to him for this season.

That is a very good point. Hopefully back for us this week and we get back to winning ways Very Happy

ROSS: “We have some longer term ones like @Charliewyke1 and @Ethan_robson8. Catts remains out and the earliest he’ll be back is after the FA Cup game. We’ve had a few knocks this week to McGeouch, Maguire and @JSinclair_48, so we’ll assess them ahead of the game.”

On another Sunderland forum ( which will remain nameless.. )all of Catts injury time outs are listed.. there is a large number of matches he has missed!

Fortunately the SunderMad forum does not concern itself with such irrelevance its the future not the past that we look to.

3000 mackems heading down to Walsall today, unbelievable support and well done to each and every one of them.

Will the boys reward them with a win, of course they will, its what the new Sunderland do.

We need McGuire... O9 can be hit or miss..

McGready has been a Scottish international.. and is a total menace to defenders (unfortunately at both ends of the pitch)

Ross my guess will roll the dice and see if a winning number comes up... but use the bench if need be

Looks like McGuire not 100% but on the bench, so Oviedo in midfield role!!

Come on lads keep this run going!

Interesting as you say, Ovideo in midfield, or winger. O9 on the bench

McGuire and Sinclair were doubts so no surprise and Oviedo on wing with McGeady in the hole
