The possibility of a clean sheet against Wycombe is decreasing by the minute.

You don't have to have a clean sheet to win Mad

Even without McLaughlin and Flanagan I think we'll have a strong enough team to win....and just suppose they had both been injured in the last game we would have had to play someone else anyway....is this not why we have a squad of players?

I agree it's just I think those two have been excellent and great contributors to our clean sheets - and I'm getting used to those - a pleasant novelty.

That's a strange one. I wonder if there were negotiations behind the scenes. Anyway, it makes me very happy. I hope he is.

I think I Know what happened, after checking the family rota it was found he was down for night time feeds and Mrs Mclaughlin refused to swap.

Sunderland have been handed a boost ahead of next weekend's clash with Wycombe as Jon McLaughlin has pulled out of the Scotland squad.
McLaughlin has been replaced by Kilmarnock goalkeeper Jamie MacDonald for the UEFA Nations League clashes against Israel and Albania.

The Black Cats confirmed yesterday that their clash with Wanderers would go ahead as planned despite McLaughlin and Tom Flanagan receiving international call-ups.

  • Sunderland's game against Wycombe Wanderers will go ahead despite international call-ups

Sunderland need just three call-ups in order to get a League One match postponed and they exercised that right last month by postponing their scheduled fixture against Blackpool.

However, Jack Ross was reluctant to postpone another fixture and as such, Sunderland decided against it.

McLaughlin had hinted last month that he would have a decision to make if Scotland called him up again and his decision to pull out of the squad means he will be available to play against Wycombe.

The Scotland international has been in brilliant form this season and has been vital to Sunderland's rise up to second in the League One table. Sunderland have the meanest defence in the division, and McLaughlin has kept four successive clean sheets.
Had he joined up with the Scotland squad, Sunderland would have been forced to play Robbin Ruiter in goal, with under-23s goalkeeper James Patterson being the most likely option to take his place on the bench.
