Somebody should have a little word with him about N'dong & agents. Could go to these clubs and be a benchwarmer. Stay here and develop and if desired move when ya a bit older.

Well he needs no more warning than what is happening with Joel Asoro and Paddy McNair who are squad members at best at Swansea and Middlesbrough. The grass is very rarely greener as many players have found to their cost. But I think his agent or advisers have told him this already or he would have been away last summer.

Hopefully he is a level headed lad who knows playing for Sunderland right now is providing the best experience he could hope for at this stage of his career. The memories of playing well in front of huge and appreciative crowds and scoring great and important goals will be worth far more to him at the end of the his career, than a few extra quid in the bank. But my goodness it is hard to get that message across to a 20 year old!

Maja is having a great season but he must know that he is nowhere near first team football with any of the clubs said to be after him. A good season hopefully in the championship next season and he may, just may, be ready.

Good post H.

The lad does need to stay with you and keep on learning his trade playing first team football.  Clearly many youngsters do get their heads turned but being a suspicious sod I normally point the accusing finger at their agents.  Maja might getter a better deal somewhere else but one things for sure his agent will receive a nice fat fee.

Just out of interest, when he was a Fulham he did spend some time at City’s academy but then you moved in and offered him a scholarship. Nice one.

Thanks Sid, I never knew that. Sounds like he does have his head in the right place then. Manchester City is a great club, and can imagine for youngsters being around some of those great players it would be amazing, but right now it is not the place for developing young talent

If he knows what is good for him, Joshua Erowoli Orisunmihare Oluwaseun Maja, still only 19 years old, will sign for another three years, and hopefully in less than two years he will be in the Premier League, with US! Very Happy

Sunders you should be in that advert about drama and crisis, I'm not sure we expected a quick signing but if he decides not to sign then we sell in January. He is doing well and scoring goals but I back the owners stance on players, any who dont want to be here can go.

Of course nobody is bigger than the club. Unlike Asoro he stayed (and is playing lots unlike Asoro) and has scored goals and increased his value. Strikers are like gold but if he is refusing to sign a new contract (with presumably a high but out clause) then we will as you say sell him 2s 6d in Jan.

Pity though

I was never really into the dislike of Steve Bruce that many had...but his mistake was to go from having good strikers, Bent, Gyan and various loanees to in some games not fielding any recognised goal scorers.. you do not win if you do mot score.. just as you cannot lose if you do not concede.. simple truths of football.

Maja atm is our goal scorer...

We don't know he is REFUSING to sign though do we? I have no issue if he is negotiating a better deal for himself. He is proving how valuable he is and he should be rewarded for that. I am sure an announcement will come soon which will make us all very happy Very Happy

And that is my point, I had not given Mala a second thought, he along with a few others are out of contract in the summer and I assume talks are on going with a few of them, corporal Jones comes to mind.

I well remember both Bent and Gyan leaving and would say that no one was more surprised than Bruce.

Bent left the ground after our Sunday game and by Monday morning was sitting in a Birmingham hotel waiting for permission to sign for Villa, I neither blame Bruce or Short for that, all down to Bent and his agent.

I was sitting in the ground on a Saturday listening to radio Newcastle and the man on the radio, I'm sure it was Barnsie, said that Bruce and Gyan had shaken hands on Friday night and Gyan was staying. By kick of he said breaking news, Gyan was off to the desert for a big pay packet. Again was that down to Bruce, Short or Gyan, I know mt answer.
