Burton Albion v Sunderland

Post  cyprussyd on 2018-09-09, 9:14 am

Burton Albion v Sunderland
Saturday 15th September
KO15.00
Pirelli Stadium

Next Saturday we see us on our travels again with a number of questions to answer..

  • Can we solve the concede first problem?
  • Can we settle on our best starting 11?
  • Can we get back to winning ways?

The first question may be down to two things, our best back 4 and a new O;Shea who can organise them. I'm sure Loovens was brought in to add the maturity and organization but is it working?

My personal view is that Mathews is our best right back and probably Oviedo our left back, he is now being pushed hard my Hume. Baldwin is our best centre back but who plays with him, I like Flanagan. But whoever plays we must be better organised and aware than we have been and a point not to be missed is that all goals are coming from set play and we should really find it easy to fix that.

We wont be playing our best 11 because Power is banned and Mcgeady and Watmore are not yet ready but when we do have a fully fit squad what is our best 11? Who drops out to let others in, I'm pleased it's Ross who has the problem not me.

Playing a team away who came down with us will IMO help us get back to winning ways, a tough game, yes they all are but one that takes away some pressure so 3 points please.

Next 3 games i am hoping for 9 points, anything less than 7 i will be disappointed. I dont think anyone has mentioned this, i think its time to rest Maguire, if not i can see him getting sent off soon.

Yep the opening  20 minutes malaise has to be cured.. giving the opposition a goal start is killing us.

Maja has to play.. with whom you ask... over to you Ross

Catts is playing well.. McGeouch?

We need to establish our best back 4 and stick to them

Oviedo has to come back in. Do we push him forward and play Hume at LB? Do we keep Oviedo at LB and play Hume out of position at RB?

Baldwin & Flanagan should be given a chance over the next few games. Sick of conceding easy goals from set pieces.

Difficult to drop Maja but I would prefer Sinclair & Wyke starting. I feel sorry for Maja as he is playing upfront alone but he is still relatively young and would be a bloody good impact sub.

Catts n McGeuch together, hmm, not sure yet.

Regardless of who Ross picks it is good knowing he has decent options on the bench and the fact that he is not afraid to change players or tactics at any time.

I still think once we get into a rhythm and we stay free from injuries we will be a major force in this league.

Burton Albion searching for short-term goalkeeping fix ahead of Sunderland's League One visit
The Brewers have lost two goalkeepers through injury, and are looking to see if they can avoid asking Harry Campbell to make his full league debut

Well all eyes on Burton, Coxhoe bus leaves at 7.30 in the morning with the usual pub booked for a pre game drink or three and bacon or sausage roll.

With a big mackem contingent descending on the town they will certainly be heard and I can feel not only our unbeaten run continuing but back to winning ways.

Could we see Mcgeady on the bench and who will start?

My best guess is..

MCLAUGHLIN
FLANAGAN   BALDWIN  LOOVENS  OVIEDO
HONEYMAN CATTERMOLE  MCGEOUCH
GOOCH  MAJA  MAGUIRE
RUITER  MATHEWS SINCLAIR WYKE HUME MCGREADY ONIEN

Harsh on Hume but you can't argue with Oviedo coming back in. Agree with Flanagan on the right. I think I'd replace Maguire with Wyke. What the hell, stick Sinclair in instead of McGeouch.

Dylan McGeouch has picked up a slight muscular problem and manager Jack Ross must assess Bryan Oviedo's fitness after the international break

I guess McGeouch injured or he had as bad a game as I thought last week.

Very attacking line up Wyke and Maja up front Gooch and Sinclair on the wings. Good back 5 as well.

Going to be interesting
