SUNDERLAND V FLEETWOOD TOWN

Post  cyprussyd on 2018-09-05, 8:55 am

SUNDERLAND V FLEETWOOD TOWN
Saturday 8th September
KO 15.00

I'm sure the media will be full of the distraction that Joey Barton brings and for sure he will bring that extra edge to the game, a game like every game this season that will be far from easy.

That said most of the team will have enjoyed a week off from competitive football apart from those who need it that now have extra miles on the clock.

I dont see many changes but we will have one, could have more and should have a very strong bench, my expected team is..

MCLAUGHLIN
HUME  BALDWIN  LOOVENS  JAMES
HONEYMAN  CATTERMOLE  MCGEOUCH
GOOCH  MAJA  MAGUIR

RUITER  OZTURK  FANAGAN  WYKE  SINCLAIR LOVE ROBSON

A few unlucky to miss out, a good thing and I'm far from sure of the bench and indeed Hume starting, will Ross keep faith with Love and move Hume to left back and drop James?

At the start of the season Wyke and Sinclair would be automatic starters but the performances of Majs, Maguire and Gooch have scuppered that.

There is, IMO, every chance of Ozturk keeping his place and relegating Loovens to the bench, pleased it's Ross who decides and not me.

If fit I think it will be  Loovens but it seems Ozturk is getting better which is great. Will McGuire get dropped after  last night? Ross may even give Maja a rest now Wyke and Si cair are back.

Funny how quickly things can change, weeks ago Cattermole was the week link, Maja would make bench at best and we still have Mcgeady and Watmore to come back. Even Ruiter had a confident game last night so every player is playing for their place and its been a while since we have had genuine options. Ross has been fantastic so far but he really starts to earn his corn now.

I obviously hope I am wrong but I can just see Barton getting 1-0 up on us and lauding it with our great unwashed cousins from up the road.

Hopefully I am 100% wrong, we thrash the living daylights out of them and he gets hit in the town halls by a stray ferocious free kick.

Re: SUNDERLAND V FLEETWOOD TOWN

Jack Ross is expecting to have Glenn Loovens and Adam Matthews available for selection this weekend.
Loovens was forced off with an injury at half-time down at AFC Wimbledon two weeks ago, while Adam Matthews has been out since the Scunthorpe United match.
Both have now returned to training though, and the manager has revealed the pair will be in contention for selection this weekend against Fleetwood Town.
Ross has also provided an update on the progress Aiden McGeady and Duncan Watmore are making as the treatment room slowly empties.
“Both (Glenn and Adam) are very close and will be in consideration for the weekend,” he said.
“It’s just about balancing up what they’ve done recently and what other options we have available.
“Beyond that, that only leaves us with Aiden (McGeady) and Duncan (Watmore). This is probably the most positive Aiden has been in terms of reacting to the work he has done.”
He continued: “He has had several setbacks, but this is the furthest he has been done the line to getting back to full fitness.
“Duncan has continued to progress well but the thing with Duncan is that while we all want him to be back we have a duty of care because he has had two serious injuries.
“We need to make sure he is eased back in, but he is getting ever closer and he is positive about how he is progressing.”

I think a front 3 of Sinclair Wyke and Maja would blow this league away.

Totally agree vinks but will a manager have the balls to go with that?

Or will he stay true to Maguire who has been MOTM for many this season

We need to start playing right from the off as the opposition does seem to come straight at us with high energy from the whistle...

Something I am sure Ross has been stressing

Well I've sllipped a disc this week but I'm buggered if that's going to stop me. I may a  well be in pain at the SoL than  on the  couch. Except I won't be. I will be on cloud nine watching Joey Barton get crushed.

1 - 1 today.

Another scrap.
But we keep going.

My feelings - as long as we are in, or close to, the top six come January then there is a chance to add a greater cutting edge to our attacking play...

Sadly missed today's game, even on radio due to spending all night at hospital, a few hours sleep then all day back at hospital due to Annette having a suspected mild heart attack at midnight.

So cant comment on how we played however, new owners, new players, players not match fit and still unsure of best back 4 but unbeaten and still in 4th so far from unhappy or concerned.

Hope all Ok Syd.

Happy enough with the performance but we need to stop conceding early to state the obvious. Very impressed with Hume and quite a few others. And  wait for it boys and girls........................

......... Cattermole is very goood in this  team and I'm liking him alot. There I've said it.

Some good performances, some silly mistakes some stupid bloody tackles when it wasnt necessary. A draw imo was a fair result. We played well near the end at hit the post a couple of times but they missed a penna. 1st save from one of our goalies since 1989 and T.Norman I believe.
