Tyne Wear Derby

Post  cyprussyd on 2018-08-27, 11:03 am

A comment from Sunders on another thread brought the derby games to mind and the question, do we/you miss them?

Naturally the absolute joy of that winning feeling and the ingrained image of Di Canio's knee slide will stay forever but do I miss them, no.

The shredded nerves leading up to the game I found got harder and harder and match day became almost unbearable. Then if we scored it was watch the clock and pray for the final whistle, if they scored first, yes I am old enough to remember that far back, well life seemed to be over.

So all in all I enjoy the break, so do my nerves.

No I do not miss them.

I would like one more meet in the championship next season before we go up again and they go down again.

They ate nerve wracking moments.. but then that is sport. You may want to hide behind the sofa.. or just be numb like a certain time in 1973.

However I do miss them.. it is what 'live drama' is all about. Defoe rates his volley against the mags very high. I would have loved to play in a derby.. losing would be awful..winning would be sublime

I miss the derby games, however I would like to avoid them for a couple of more seasons until we have built a stronger team...
