From hype and excitement to reality
Well its just over a week, 10 days to be exact, to our first competitive game of the season and our opening game in division 1.
Not surprisingly its been a summer of hype and excitement with the long overdue rebuild under way. Everyone we wanted out are gone or on their way, Mr E Short at the top of that list. The wall of silence we had become used to has been replaced with almost daily tweets and maybe a little to much information, many of the pink seats are gone and even Mr Rodwell is no longer on the pay roll.
All of this has led to a massive surge in season card sales and everyone saying how they are looking forward to the big kick off.
But, the big kick off is a 12.30 kick of in division one and is live on sky so how will the hype look on the day?
We should at least have 20,000 plus and even the most optimistic know we wont have 40,000 plus, indeed with the premier concourse closed many would be turned away if over 40,000 turned up.
The daft lads and lasses like me will turn up because we hate the metro centre and enjoy the few hours peace and quiet, dont tell Annette I said that. But we know that programme sales will probably hit record levels, how else we we know who is who in the Sunderland team, yes, none of those regulars off MOTD either in our team of the visitors.
So what do you think the crowd will be, I would take a stab at around 30,000, unbelievable IMO for a division one game with our recent history and I hope that those excited fans understand we have a new team under a new manager and we are playing a decent team, 6-0 in Scotland is one thing, a competitive game in division one is a very different proposition.
All that said, I cant wait and fully expect a winning start with a highly motivated well drilled team giving their all.

MrRAWhite may be right in that the live broadcast could knock a few thousand off the crowd but I'll guess at between 27-28,000 for the first match

Re: From hype and excitement to reality
I reckon about the 26000 mark as well.
Looking forward to it big style. Looking forward to our 1st win of the season and looking forward to Maja, Honeyman and the new lad all getting goals. Not sure who will score our other two.
