George Evans Reading fans react

Post  cyprussyd on 2018-07-16, 4:02 pm

Reading fans are reacting to reports George Evans is Sunderland bound.
The Reading Chronicle claim Evans is on the verge of joining the Mackems after being granted permission to leave the Royals' pre-season training camp.
It was previously reported that Sunderland had seen a six-figure offer accepted for the midfielder, who recently entered the final year of his deal at the Madejski Stadium.

But the news does not appear to have been well received in Reading, with some Royals supporters tweeting their displeasure overnight.
This is what they're saying...

[ltr]WTF is this, what has my club become. Sell George Evans for piss all, what a pisstake. Has so much potential and has proven to be good enough to play at this level. Distraught. #readingfc[/ltr]

[ltr]Will be sad to see George Evans go, clearly not fancied by Clement and should be fantastic in League One; struggled with injury last year but generally solid, never plays outstanding but rarely plays badly #readingfc[/ltr]

[ltr]George Evans has always impressed me. Only problem is that he always seemed to play the easy ball rather than unlock the defence. He’s still so much better than Edwards and JVD if he is going to Sunderland we will come to regret it Imo #ReadingFC #SAFC[/ltr]

Evans began his career at Manchester City and had three separate League One loan spells, with Crewe Alexandra, Scunthorpe United before joining Reading in January 2016.
The 23-year-old was a regular in the Royals' side that missed out on promotion via a penalty shoot-out 14 months ago, but featured more infrequently last season.

Re: George Evans Reading fans react

By all accounts, Sunderland have finally agreed personal terms with Reading's George Evans and the 23-year-old will be unveiled with a red-and-white scarf in the next few days.

First, Evans has to make his way back from Austria where he's been with the Royals squad in a pre-season training camp. But the midfielder has been left out of tonight's friendly game against Rubin Kazan. Reading take on the Russian Premier League side in the Austrian town of Ilz.
A fee between the two clubs was reportedly agreed several days ago. Various figures have been suggested since, ranging from £300,000 to £750,000, but we'll hazard a guess it'll be a six-figure sum - ho.
The stumbling block has supposedly been agreeing the player's wages.
The deal will probably be Sunderland's first actual transfer spend this summer though a host of free agents have arrived at the Stadium of Light in recent weeks.

Evans will arrive too late to make this weekend's friendly against St Mirren but he may yet make next Friday's trip to the Riverside to take on Middlesbrough.
The season proper starts in a fortnight with the transfer window closing on Thursday 9th August. Sunderland still have some work to do, particularly with reinforcements required up front and a host of bodies still to move on. The likes of Didier Ndong, Papy Djilobodji, Lamine Kone and Bryan Oviedo are almost certain to leave, assuming someone is willing to stump up cash for them.
The signing of Evans could prove to be a game-changer with Sunderland clearly still needing a few quality additions to bolster the squad ahead of the League One campaign. The former Manchester City academy product will arrive with something to prove after failing to break into Reading's squad on a regular basis, but he will come with a 'promising' tag still firmly in tact.
