Transfer update - bid accepted

Post  cyprussyd on 2018-07-15, 3:01 pm

With the transfer window closing in a little over three weeks - Thursday 9 August at 5pm to be precise - it’s clear that there is an awful lot of work to do on the Sunderland squad, both in terms of incoming and outgoings.

As far as incomings are concerned, Roker Report understands that Sunderland have had a bid accepted for a Championship midfielder and the club are currently talking personal terms with the player. Should those talks go smoothly, we may have a resolution to that deal in the near future.

The club are still waiting to hear back from Bradford City about their bid for Charlie Wyke but are hopeful a deal can be reach to bring the striker to the Stadium of Light. The 25-year-old had a good season in League One last season, scoring 15 goals and providing eight assists.

There are still a few players on high wages that the club need to shift before the window closes and although the transfer window shuts August 31 elsewhere in Europe, it’s hoped that those players will be moved on before the domestic window closes.
Wahbi Khazri is on the verge of completing his move to Saint-Etienne. The Tunisian international completed his medical with the Ligue 1 side last week but a slight hold-up in his discussions with Les Verts means the deal won’t be completed until tomorrow.
Another player is expected to leave early next week and with interest from clubs around Europe for all of Bryan Oviedo, Papy Djilobodji, Lamine Kone and Didier Ndong, we should see the back of all four players sooner rather than later.

Meanwhile, clubs have been sniffing around Sunderland’s brightest academy products after our relegation to League One. Sam Greenwood recently completed a move to Arsenal and Liverpool are reportedly interested in 15-year-old midfielder Luca Stephenson but we understand the club are doing their utmost to not only keep their best academy players but are keen to spend money strengthening the youth sides.

Sunderland are looking to tie up a deal for Reading midfielder George Evans in the next few days. The Echo understands the Black Cats have identified Evans as a player who can add some extra quality to Jack Ross' engine room. Evans has just a year left on his contract at the Madjeski Stadium and is understood to be open to a move to Wearside.
