Meanwhile back in division 1

Post  cyprussyd on 2018-07-08, 6:41 am

I think its fair to say that even those who  are not big football fans are now gripped watching England progress in the world cup and all domestic football as taken a step back in our thoughts and understandably so.

But with our first preseason game 24 hours away and our first competitive game a mere 4 weeks away I'm sure hard work is continuing at the club to get players out and importantly new players in.

I fully expect to see Khazri and Kone depart this week and maybe even Oviedo but with N'Don appearing to want a kings ransom we could well be stuck with him and after his no show that would not be good, we dont need any bad apples this season.

Players in is not so easy because we still dont know, mind Ross may have a good idea, what the future holds for Honeyman, Maja and Asoro.

Tuesday evening will see the first get together of players and fans at Darlington and I know preseason is all about fitness but a win would be nice boys.

Mind I'm still looking forward to the semi finals, are you?

When Gareth Southgate was appointed England manager I thought, thanks for nothing Big Sam, see what your greed has landed us with!!

I couldn't have been more wrong. Southgate has brought stability and team spirit to rival any club atmosphere, they play for him and for each other  I am very impressed.

Possibly the current success can be traced back to having some idea about the framework of the team from his days as U-21 coach, part of the general set up will have given him an insight into the abilities of players outside of the elite clubs.

I suspect that he was a stop-gap between Sam and another big name manager but he has made England a hard team to beat for a young bunch.  Good luck to the lad.
