Picking the bones out of the Don's podcast

Post  cyprussyd on 2018-06-22, 7:12 am

As well as revealing that centre-back Alim Ozturk is close to signing and currently undergoing a medical at the club,(now complete), he revealed he expects a further five more before next Wednesday.
He revealed that two strikers had been at the club on Monday for talks, a midfielder from Scotland was close, as was a full-back and a new goalkeeper. He was confident that all would be complete
In total he said he hoped the club would make ten new signings at least this summer and confirmed that Grant Leadbitter and Jack Baldwin of Peterborough were on the club’s radar, but said neither was one of the players who are close.
As for outgoings, he expects five to be gone before the start of pre-season.
One is Jason Steele who has left on a free to Brighton. A deal has also been agreed with Middlesbrough and Stoke for the sale of Paddy McNair. He said McNair’s agent made clear that the player had no desire to play for the club in League One.
He also revealed that Jack Rodwell was close to departing the club, saying he’d be surprised if he was still a Sunderland player by the end of next week.
Going into further detail on other players he revealed he’d turned down an offer earlier in the summer for Bryan Oviedo because it didn’t meet their valuation, while interest in Lamine Kone has gone quiet.

Stewart Donald
He revealed that ex-chief executive Margaret Byrne, now the agent of Lee Cattermole and George Honeyman, has told the club that both of her clients would prefer a move to the Championship.
He also noted that Joel Asoro’s has asked to leave via his agent, but says it’s an issue about something at the club, rather than the league they’re playing in. He said he hopes if he and/or Jack Ross can talk to the player they can convince him to stay next term.
He was adamant though that the club would not sell any player for an amount that didn’t match their valuation. He said if a player is under contract then they’ll be at the club next season, whether they want to be or not, unless an acceptable offer is made.

As for players who definitely will stay, he named Duncan Watmore, Adam Matthews, Ethan Robson and Elliot Embleton.
The interview lasted over 90 minutes and as well as transfers, Donald spoke about finances, Ellis Short, Martin Bain, next season’s kits, changing the seats in the stadium and much, much more.

If players want out I hope they go. We can do without any ill feelings we may get from Kone, Catts etc. It could well be just Byrne causing bother as I am sure Honeyman stated he wanted to stay at the end of last season.

Still it all sounds mightily positive. Mind you bringing virtually a new team together I hope fans are not expecting miracles.

Yes I think Catts has 3 more years and the Don said if he stays he expects him to give 100%. One thing is clear, thye piss taking days are over.
