Sunderland AFC can confirm Sunderland AFC Ladies have not been successful in their application for a license to play in the FAWSL 1 or the FA Women’s Championship.
Following today’s announcement by the FA, we will take some time to fully consider the options available to us in relation to SAFC Ladies.

It's because Bain and Short withdrew funding and training facilities (yet managed to offer those same training facilities to Hartlepool United mens team when they needed additional support!) so they had to go part time. The most successful part of SAFC in last 10 years. Look how many former players are in top teams aroudnthe world - and in England team.

It is disgusting, Manchester United Women got in though, surprise, surprise - never even had a team for over 10 years.

Someone on Twitter should message Mr Donald - would be great PR and great for the women if he would try to save them.

Sunderland AFC chairman Stewart Donald has today confirmed today that the club is speaking with the FA in relation to securing a WSL licence for the SAFC Ladies team.
Last week, The FA announced the clubs which will participate in The FA Women’s Super League [Tier 1] and The FA Women’s Championship [Tier 2] for the 2018-19 season, with Sunderland AFC Ladies not being part of these plans.
Speaking about the process, Stewart Donald said: “The ladies team is an important part of our Sunderland family.
“When you look at their history, seven of the current England women’s squad was produced by Sunderland, which is something to be very proud of.
“We want to continue the club’s long-standing tradition of developing top-class women’s footballers, as well as giving young girls the opportunity to aspire to play for Sunderland when they grow up.”

Will be good if Donald Wheres your troosers saves the ladies team. Does it cost much and does it help keep academy status up?
