Steve Gerrard.  A statement of intent.

He is off to Rangers apparently

I really don't mind who it is as long as they have experience at this level. Denis Smith did so well for us in 1987 coming from York City and he was not a well known manager at that time. If whoever we get replicates his achievements I will be very happy indeed.

It was a bit tongue in cheek H, but with the memory of most of the Brit successful managers making humble starts like Shankly at Carlisle, Clough at Hartlepool and so on.

The Rangers bit could be a bit of a dangerous step for him and their recent financial history matches ours.

It's anyone's guess. Loads and loads of names being mentioned but will anything happen until the sale has been finalised? No-one seems sure how long that will take. Who's Martin Bain working for now?

I just hope whoever it is fights to keep hold of the decent young players we haveand gets rid of the leeches and others who have been a stable part of our failings in recent years. And no loan players please. Once upon a time I liked the odd loan player as it meant we could get a bit more quality in e.g. Wellbeck (you know the others) but our loans of late have been dross/injured or both with no commitment to the club. Young, fit committed players please. Hopefully their upward trajectory matches the club's in the next few years.

^^^^^^^ I believe this will be the answer. I thought Michael Appleton was a good shout. I was hoping a certain Frenchman who is released from a London club in the near future might have fancied a challenge.

I agree. It is a big risk I think for Gerrard more than Rangers.
