Sunderland's TV highlights - little-known TV channel set to be the new home of EFL goals

Sunderland highlights will not be shown on channel 5 from next season, with a relatively unknown channel set to win the rights

Sunderland fans will have to get to know low-profile TV channel Quest from next season, as they are set to be announced as the new home for the highlights from the Championship, League One and League Two.
Channel Five have opted against renewing their contract to broadcast the highlights , which will bring to an end their three-year coverage of ‘Football on 5’.
The broadcaster signed a three-year deal to show the highlight every Saturday at 9pm, at the start of the 2015/16 season, replacing the BBC’s Football League Show.

However, Channel 5 only managed to attract an average of 500,000 viewers per episode - around half of what the BBC were generating in their later slot.
It was believed that the BBC were keen to recapture the TV rights but the EFL preferred Quest - which is a branch of the discovery network.
The official announcement will follow when the presenting team are known and the time of the broadcast is agreed.

Quest was only established in 2009 and is a part of the Liberty Group which also contains Eurosport and the Discovery channels.
It is not their first foray into sport, having featured competitions such as the Dubai Challenge Cup, Speedway highlights, the British Superbike Championship and the Home Series International Snooker.
They also broadcast coverage of the 2014 Schalke Cup, which contained Sunderland’s fierce rivals, Newcastle.
