Four-year-old Frankie Sherwood who stole Newcastle hearts has lost his fight against neuroblastoma.
Frankie died in the early hours of Monday morning after a devastating battle with the childhood cancer, his family has confirmed.
The youngster was diagnosed at just 18 months old in May 2015, but despite undergoing bouts of gruelling treatment, the deadly cancer kept coming back.
His family had hoped to take him to America for a last-ditch pioneering treatment, but in January were handed the devastating news that it was too late, and he had just weeks to live.

The cancer he had fought so hard for most of his young life had spread through his brain and was growing.
Frankie’s bravery in the face of his ordeal has captured the hearts of people across the North East, with thousands donating to his treatment fund, sending their support to his family, and helping fundraise to make special memories in his last few months. He was especially well-loved by NUFCfans - the Toon-loving youngster has led his team out onto the pitch in the past and met some of the club’s stars.
The heartbreaking news of his death was greeted with an outpouring of grief on Twitter.

One tweeted: “Rest in peace little fella, taken too soon. Your bravery throughout your fight was an inspiration.”
Another tweeted: “Such sad news that young Frankie Sherwood passed away during the night. Showed such bravery and strength. Thoughts are with his family #RIPFrankie”
