Lee Camp

Post  cyprussyd on 2018-02-03, 10:00 am

Lee Camp knows his way around a relegation dogfight and has told his new Sunderland team-mates their destiny is in their own hands.
The Black Cats go into Saturday’s Championship game at home Ipswich Town, expected to be the goalkeeper’s debut, a point off the bottom of the table.
But the former Derby County, Burton Albion, Queens Park Rangers, Norwich City, Nottingham Forest, West Bromwich Albion, Bournemouth and Rotherham United player, who joined on loan from Cardiff City, has been brought in for his positivity as well as his experience.
“Nobody wants to be in a losing side, or a team around the bottom of the table,” he told the Black Cats’ official website. “I’ve been around football a long time and unfortunately I’ve flirted with this part of the table more times than I would have liked. But you get a run together, you get a bit of confidence and if you beat the teams around you, you can pull yourself out.
“You’re always in control of your own destiny because if you win games of football you’ll get what you want to get, and if you lose, you’ll get what you don’t want to get – it’s as simple as that.
“I know exactly how big Sunderland is, the following it has and the history.

“I know what’s happened in the last couple of years but things are temporary and I believe things can move in the right direction. Hopefully I can be a part of that.”
The 33-year-old will have an important role to play in a youthful squad.
“With young players you get enthusiasm and experience comes,” said Camp. “If they embrace this it’ll be a great learning curve for their careers and if I can rub off on one person or say one thing that changes it for the better and everything comes out with a positive attitude then the job’s done.”
What Camp will want to do if he starts against Ipswich is improve his Stadium of Light record.

“I’ve never won there, I don’t think, so it’s never been great memories,” he said. “I think I’ve kept one clean sheet there maybe over the years. I remember playing here one season (in 2006-07) with Norwich and QPR and I think I lost both games (1-0 and 2-1).
“It’s a great stadium, I’ve played here with England Under-16s or 17s and I know the North East is a hotbed for football.“

If we had a competent keeper I reckon we would have had more points and not be in the bottom 3.

To go from the goalkeepers we had in go last season Mannone and Pickford to the clowns we have now has cost us dear.

Camp has to start.. he cannot be worse let's hope better

He's got a poor memory, he came on as a substitute  when our goalie was sent off on my very first visit. We were leading 1-0 at the time. Bassong then gave away a penalty and it finished 1-1.
