Chris Coleman has admitted his players can’t afford to feel sorry for themselves as they squandered another opportunity to collect points.
Sunderland made a bright start to proceedings, with Ashley Fletcher, Ovie Ejaria and Joel Asoro providing an interesting blend in the final third.
The trio all had chances as the visitors hung on before Joe Garner’s touch and turn on 35 minutes gifted Ipswich the lead as he found the bottom corner from the edge of the box.
Sunderland’s afternoon then went from bad to worse before the half was out, this time Grant Ward’s cross from the right was bundled over the line by the unfortunate Adam Matthews.
And the lead proved to be too much for the lads to claw back as a second successive defeat was suffered.
Speaking post-match, Coleman delivered his honest verdict.
“The result was more disappointing today than the performance,” he said.
“Tonight, for the first 20-25 minutes we were the better team.
“We were certainly the more exciting team in the final third, we had a couple of opportunities where we could’ve had the first goal.
“That never happened and then we conceded.
“We conceded the second goal before half-time and that really ruined us.
“It was incredibly disappointing. We showed some spirit (in the second period) and we tried to get a goal back.
“We can’t feel sorry for ourselves. It is disappointing because we have lost at home and lost two on the bounce.
“It was another opportunity to pick points up which we didn’t.”

@JHunterChron
Coleman: People can be forgiven for thinking it is never going to turn, but it WILL turn, I promise you. [ltr]#safc[/ltr]
