Sunderland and the Burnley Blueprint

Post  sunderpitt on 2017-12-22, 4:51 pm

I guess I will not have been the only football fan to have read how Burnley mainly recruit  (although not excusively) British players. The thinking being they will play for the club and are less likely to be mercenaries, e.g Kone. Not sure if I buy into that 100%, especially as they have no black British (many of whom are very proud England players)

That situation is a throw-back to the fifties/sixties when it was the norm to build a team strengthened by signings. There size and financial base just about prevents them from making over priced continental or world wide signings but, like us a few years ago, them not having a black player is purely coincidental.
