How old do I feel.

Post  cyprussyd on 2017-11-13, 11:56 am

Shoot me down but, I feel very, very old. The church of England have issued guidance to all its schools saying both boy's and girls can wear tutus, tiaras or superhero costumes without comment.

It is not what it appears on the surface. And some of the headlines about this today in the gutter press are prety disgraceful really.

Most young children of both sexes like to dress up! So all this means is when they are playing pretend at schools and nursery, if a boy wants to be a princess or play with My Little Pony, and a girl to be Batman or Fireman Sam ilder, then staff should let them, without comments about boys not wearing pink, or frills, or sparkles, or that girls can't be a superhero or drive a fire engine.

Children are generally oblivious to gender stereotypes until adults and bigger kids get in on the act. So I see nothing wrong with this policy whatsoever. If it helps them grow up with less bullying, more care and concern for others and improved feelings of self-worth and self-confidence then it can only be for the good of all of us.

When I was a child, many many years ago we played and did not need church guidence to tell us that kids should be allowed to be kids and its the guidance that makes me feel old.
Have we really reach the stage where a boy in a tiara is automatically gay, transgender or whatever,.

My grandson who a couple of months ago turned 4, likes to play  "Snowhite" you have to pretend to be asleep and he wakes you up with a kiss.

Did a Sunday stint at football training with a lively 5yo g/grandson and he is showing promise. Shorts past his knees, boots a bit big but he had a "real" kit on. Mind he has some way to catch the girls who also play.

Kids are kids - and gender comes later.
