Billy McKinlay has recently stepped into a first-team coaching role at Sunderland

Billy McKinlay and Robbie Stockdale will be offered the chance to lead Sunderland on a caretaker basis following Simon Grayson's sacking, according to Sky sources.
Sky Sports News understands first-team coaches McKinlay and Stockdale took training on Wednesday morning as chief executive Martin Bain searches for Grayson's replacement.
Sunderland travel to Stockdale's old club Middlesbrough for Sunday's Tees-Wear derby, live on Sky Sports.

Robbie Stockdale (L) will be offered the chance to lead Sunderland on a caretaker basis

McKinlay, who had an eight-day spell in charge of Watford three years ago, joined Sunderland last year under manager David Moyes, with whom he worked as an assistant coach at Real Sociedad in Spain.
The 48-year-old had been working as a scout but moved into a coaching role last month after original first-team coach Glynn Snodin became ill.

Grayson was sacked 16 minutes after the final whistle blew on Tuesday's 3-3 draw at home to bottom side Bolton after overseeing just one win in 15 Championship matches in charge.
Sunderland have not won a home match in 19 attempts - since December last year - which equals a British record

@SkySports_Keith
Understand Sunderland are looking for a manager with experience to replace sacked Simon Grayson. Not necessarily an out-of-work boss.
