Sunderland have added the former Scotland international Billy McKinlay to their coaching staff on a short term basis while assistant manager Glynn Snodin recovers from illness. The 48 year old, who has been working as the club's chief scout, will be in the dug out for the first time tomorrow for the visit of Queens Park Rangers.

Simon Grayson has brought scout Billy McKinlay into his coaching team while his right-hand man Glynn Snodin recovers from illness.
Snodin was taken ill last month ahead of [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] Carabao Cup game at Everton and has been recuperating over the last three weeks, but has been advised not to rush back into the dugout.

And [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] has responded by promoting McKinlay from within the Black Cats’ scouting network to a coaching role on a temporary basis until Snodin is ready to return to work.
Snodin has worked alongside Grayson at Leeds United, Huddersfield Town, Preston, and Sunderland, and is expected to resume his duties in the coming weeks.

McKinlay, 48, will be on the bench tomorrow when Sunderland take on [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]QPR at the Stadium of Light, along with first team coach Robbie Stockdale.
Before joining Sunderland’s scouting operation, McKinlay had spells on the coaching staff at Fulham and was also assistant manager at Northern Ireland during Lawrie Sanchez’s reign.

The 48-year-old then coached Watford and had a brief spell in charge of the Hornets. He was assistant manager to David Moyes at Real Sociedad, and later managed Norwegian club Stabaek.

His playing career included spells at Dundee United, Blackburn Rovers, Bradford City, Preston North End, Clydebank, Leicester City, and Fulham.
He also won 29 senior caps for Scotland in the 1990s.
