The smoking gun

Post  cyprussyd on 2017-09-21, 10:58 am

In any other season at any other club Grayson would have been sacked by now with the run of poor results we have, but and it's a big but, he does have a multitude of excuses for those results.

My question is,"Is Grayson bulletproof"

We all know the problems we have so I won't go over them but it means that Grayson is working with both hands tied behind his back, blindfolded and hanging upside down.

But we also know the Short record of pulling the trigger, identifying a replacement and understanding the problems have never seemed high on his agenda when he decides that the sack is the answer.

I personally think Grayson is doing an excellent job with the hand he has been dealt and I don't see any bette manager scrambling to take over or doing any better but can losing games go on indefinitely?

Already a small but none the less vocal section of our supporters are starting to question Graysons ability, will that small minority grow?

Is he bulletproof and if not how long will he get?

I don't agree with that for a start. There's clubs below us and only one has sacked their manager.

If we lose the next 2 or 3, I think Short will start to consider it.

I agree that the hand he's been dealt has been awful but we've got some decent enough players - I think he's done well in the transfer market considering. Results on the pitch need to come now though. He's got choices - make the right ones. Get the defence working properly and train them to concentrate beyond 90 minutes like Keane did. I would not call for his sacking but beyond all the right noises from him, now is the time to prove his worth with results.

His past record in the Championship demands that he should be given some time.

But Short will not want another relegation, which just MIGHT be a possibility.  Just one win in eight games.  If we still have only one win after ten or twelve games.. then Short may reconsider.

However, we do not know the full picture.
If say a buyer has been lined up for the New Year, Short will not be bothered about the manager.. he just wants to get rid.. for his own good reasons.

If a buyer comes in I would think they'll bring in their own man anyway.

In the meantime the frugal budget will continue...

It is certainly not his fault we do not have strikers, but he will get the blame anyhow.

Although we did have managers turning us down cos Short will not spend money

If we had a TEAM then the lack of quality up top wouldn't be of such a problem.
The coach will need to dig real deep & quickly before he's forced out by more long standing members.
