Fears for Clarke Carlisle after former Burnley defender and ex-PFA chairman goes missing
The 37-year-old made more than 500 appearances for nine clubs during his player career

Concerns are growing for former Premier League defender Clarke Carlisle after he went missing this morning.
The 37-year-old, who made more than 500 appearances for nine clubs during his player career, was last seen in Manchester city centre at 6am today.

His wife Carrie, who is six months pregnant with the couple's first child, tweeted: "#Missing Clarke's last known whereabouts was Manchester City Centre at 6am. If you see him please get in touch."
Carlisle was seen in Flag Market in Preston on Thursday afternoon wearing a black zip up jacket, a black t-shirt, blue jeans and Nike trainers.
A statement from Lancashire Police read: "We are growing increasingly concerned after former footballer Clarke Carlisle went missing."

Detective Chief Inspector Steve Holgate said: “We are extremely concerned about Clarke and we would urge anyone who sees him or knows where he is to get in touch with us. We would also appeal directly to Clarke himself to contact us if he sees this appeal to let us know he is safe.”
Anyone with information should contact police on 101 quoting log number 0235.
Carlisle has a history of mental illness and in 2014 he tried to kill himself when he stepped in front of 12-ton truck but survived despite suffering horrific injuries.

Following the incident his relationship with wife Gemma broke down and a witness of the collision, Chris Kilbride, died just over six months later.
At the time of the incident Mr Kilbride was driving a van along the busy A64 in Yorkshire and swerved to avoid the lorry and phoned 999.

Carlisle spent six weeks in a psychiatric unit following the incident.
But he appeared to be on the road to recovery last year when he wrote an online statement which read: "Two years ago today, I jumped in front of a truck. One year today, I was back in psychiatric hospital. Today, I’m away with the love of my life."
Carlisle hit the headlines in 2011 when he became the first footballer to appear on Question Time and was dubbed 'Britain's brainiest footballer'.
The defender spent five years with Burnley and alos played for Queens Park Rangers and Leeds.
He retired in 2013 before taking up a role at the PFA where he was eventually named chairman.

Through his foundation, he is due to host a mental health awareness evening in Birmingham next week.
The event is being held in memory of ex-Solihull Moors player Nick Mowl who took his own life earlier this year.
Carlisle is scheduled to be a guest speaker at the event next Thursday.

Oh dear, poor Clarke. His family must be beside themselves.

Hoping and praying he turns up safe and well and gets the help he obviously continuously needs.
