Intrigue

Post  Kipper on 2017-09-07, 2:41 pm

I just don't know what to expect tomorrow. It's going to be really interesting to see

- who is picked
- what formation is played
- whether the new boys will give us great hope
- whether Watmore is ready
- whether Kone is going to show us the side of him we like or whether he'll revert to last season's effort
- If Ruitter stays in goal
- If McGeady is fit
- If everyone will up their game having had some harsh words from the manager
- who will score

Looking forward to it but nervous as well.

I keep thinking it's Friday. I'm going to be sorely disappointed when my alarm goes off for work in the morning.

anybody heard anything about Watmore? I hope he gets some game time on Saturday as he usually brings a bit of dynamism to proceedings.

hope Ruitter stays in goal.

Want to see Williams in action as well

Hope mcGeady is fit - all adds to the creativity.

Would be great for Vaughan to get a goal to boost his confidence.

I'm pretty confident we've got the players to do a really decent job against Sheff U but has Grayson had time enough to work with them and get the formation right.

On Look North tonight we saw Watmore training with the first team. Hooray! cheers

Brief interviews with Williams and Macmanaman and both came across well. Looking forward to seeing them in action. Very Happy

No sign of McGeady Crying or Very sad

None of the newbies have played a minutes football this season, they may be on the bench, but not match fit.

When they are ALL match fit and available, G wants flexibility, including the use of three centre backs when appropriate. So, we could see Browning Wilson and Kone, and then the use of wing backs ...... That gives him some options depending upon whether he wants attackers that can defend or defenders that can attack!!!

So, 532, 352, 343 or more traditional 442, 433, 4132 it will be interesting!

Or increasingly popular 4-1-4-1

Grayson delighted with options

Simon Grayson is delighted with the options at his disposal as he looks to name his starting XI to face Sheffield United on Saturday.

Ten new faces walked through the door at the Academy of Light over the summer, with three of those faces completing Sunderland’s transfer activity in the final minutes of last Thursday’s 11pm deadline.
But as the dust settles on what has been a hectic few months of transfers, focus at the training ground is centred around the Black Cats’ important double header on Wearside which sees them face Sheffield United and Nottingham Forest in quick succession.
Speaking to safc.com, Grayson shared his delight over the options at his disposal and admitted he will have some big decisions to make over Saturday’s starting XI.
“Most of the lads are fit and Duncan and Paddy are making good progress,” he said.
“(There are a) couple of players still coming back from international duty who we will assess and we have to certainly consider the time zones (they’ve been in) and the amount of travel these players have done.
“There are all these things to consider but I feel what we have got now is strength in depth.
“We have an opportunity to play different systems and there is the flexibility in the group to get a strong group out there.”

Just score goals and do not concede any. 1-10 as a formation  sounds about right
