Wahbi Khazri's time at Sunderland is up

Post  cyprussyd on 2017-08-27, 6:02 pm

Wahbi Khazri's time at Sunderland is up after fans turn on him at Barnsley
Sunderland manager Simon Grayson only wants players who are committed to the cause, but Wahbi Khazri is looking for a way out of Wearside

‘I only want players here who are committed.’
Simon Grayson’s words in the wake of Saturday’s miserable defeat at Barnsley were variations on a theme he has returned to time and again since he took charge at [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] almost two months ago.

And they surely spell the end of [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] career on Wearside.
Khazri said in May that he did not want to play in the Championship, and last week he again spoke of his desire to leave.
And as much as Khazri is looking for a way out, Sunderland are ready to usher him towards the exit.
Because if he does not fancy rolling up his sleeves and meeting the challenge of the Championship head-on, then he is a player that the Black Cats do not need and do not want.
Sunderland’s financial situation is such that they cannot carry passengers such as Khazri - a player who failed even to stand out when given a start against League Two Carlisle United in the Carabao Cup last week

They would much prefer to cut their losses, recoup at least some of the £9m he cost the club in 2016, and use it - and the wages that would be freed up as a consequence - to bring in players willing to fight for the cause.
The problem they have ahead of Thursday’s transfer deadline is finding a buyer for a player who has the talent, but not the work ethic, required to succeed in English football.
Of the three permanent signings made by [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]Sam Allardyce in January 2016, Khazri was the least influential in that survival run-in.
Both Lamine Kone and Jan Kirchhoff made a much greater contribution, but Khazri offered just two goals and one assist in 14 games as that side that produced top ten form in the second half of the season to survive with a game to spare.

Khazri was barely given a look-in by David Moyes last season, despite pressure from many fans to bring him into the starting XI.
And when he was brought into the starting line-up in April and scored direct from a corner, it appeared to vindicate those who were pushing his case - although it turned out to be an isolated highlight.
Four months on, the mood has changed.

Khazri is still a peripheral figure under Moyes’ replacement Grayson, but now fans want the 26-year-old out of the club rather than in the team.
Boos rang around Oakwell from the 4,500-strong away support at Oakwell when he entered the fray from the bench yesterday.
Khazri’s command of English may be rudimentary, but he will have got the message loud and clear.

Given his farewell after last weekend it would appear others valuation of him is nowhere near to us & so we'll have to play him with the juniors or take a hit. Personally I'd prefer us to to officially  take the hit. Short will be grinning again!
