Re: How our forum used to be!

I spend less than 10 minutes a day on Facebook and have 74 'friends' on it. That only grew recently when I joined a couple of political groups. I have no 'friends' that I have not met personally.

Facebook is useful for me, for some messaging and sharing pics of my grandchildren among family, and sharing articles and organising meetings etc with others who I am working with in politics.

I am not one for reading or sharing 'inspirational' messages, by organisations seeking to exploit vulnerable people for 'clicks', neither do I post pictures of my lunch, or what I am doing 'right now' (except when on holiday occasionally), nor especially pictures of 'cute' cats or other animals!

I rarely comment on any of my friends' posts or get into any 'lively' discussions. I have seen how they escalate far too quickly, because of course the written word does not have the nuances that apply in face to face conversation, hence why people get offended so easily. Similarly many people behind a keyboard seem to feel they can say what they like, with no consideration for how that will come across to others, and again can give offence, whether meaning to or not. I seriously feel life is too short to fall out wth friends and family over a stupid conversation that, if you were in the pub, would have taken 5 minutes of your lives and then been forgotten!
