Hibernian v Sunderland AFC--Match Day Thread

Post  cyprussyd on Sat Jul 08, 2017 5:39 am

Hibernian v Sunderland AFC
Sun 09 Jul--14:00
Easter Road
(SOMEWHERE IN THE FAR NORTH)

We quickly move on to our second pre-season game in bonny Scotland.

Again winning is secondary but again winning is a good habit to have and we should see our new boy along with a few others returning.

Full match commentary again on SAFC.COM.

Well its worse than I thought.
Just had a look on not606 and RTG and I thought our little forum was bad but bloody hell.

Has last season taken its toll to that extent?

Re: Hibernian v Sunderland AFC--Match Day Thread

With three games in six days, Simon Grayson is hopeful his players will start to understand his blueprint for success.

The Black Cats take on Scottish Premier League side Hibernian this afternoon at Easter Road, kick-off 2pm, looking to build on Friday’s showing at Bury.
An inspired Josh Maja double helped Grayson get off to a winning start after the Lads had trailed 2-0 inside 27 minutes.
But steely grit and determination saw the Black Cats refuse to give up, and now Grayson has revealed with Hibs, Livingston and St Johnstone in quick succession it provides him with a chance to really get his message across to the players.
“It is good to see what the players can bring to the table,” he said.
“In the second half (at Bury), the younger players performed very well.
“Josh (Maja) took his goals very well, but there were some encouraging performances elsewhere too.
“(Bury was only the) first game of pre-season and it is out of the way now and we know there is a lot of hard work to get us to where we need to get to.
“The first 10 days of pre-season is all about the fitness work and getting the work into the legs of the players,” he continued.
“We have a game Sunday, Wednesday, Saturday so it is more about concentrating on the tactical stuff and how I want to play.”

Not sure whether I'm daft, deluded or just dumb but even after years of suffering and last season's disaster I still find myself up and ready to listen to the Hibernian game life on [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.], and it's just a bloody friendly.
The last time we played Hibs I was there with my son and grandson, an eventful walk back to the car after the police stopped us walking the quick way and sent us all the longer safe way that turned out to be not so safe.
I think the highlight for my grandson Joe was well before kick off when we stopped at a burger van around Haggerston Castle on the way up for his beloved sausage sarnie. My son [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] tells me its what he is looking forward to before the Celtic game, I can see them being on the menu at his wedding reception.
I guess its what football is all about for me, making memories, lot's of bad ones with football but many, many good ones with people. It's why I so enjoy traveling now on the Coxhoe supporters branch bus, so many good people met and memories made.
I remember so many bad games at the Stadium of Light, sitting on the bus after the game feeling glum then [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.], Butch, would get on the bus with that big smile and say,"Well Syd lad, what do you think", the smile would lift the gloom and I would be reminded that the day was about people not football, football was just the excuse for a good day out.
That thought is even more pertinent these days with the empty seat that is Butch's seat.
So maybe I'm not daft, deluded or dumb after all I have just learned that football is no longer so important that I allow it to get me down or angry, I remember the people and smile.
Come on Sunderland me bonny lads.

HT 0-1 Khazri

For the second game we are doing fine, expecting lots of changes for second half.
