EVERTON TRIO FOR SUNDERLAND?
Sky sources: Sunderland are on the verge of a double-signing from Everton this afternoon. We understand defensive duo BrendanGalloway and Tyias Browning are currently on their way to Wearside to undergo medicals ahead of season-long loan deals.
In addition, Sunderland are close to agreeing a permanent deal for Everton winger Aiden McGeady, which would take the Everton arrivals to three.
Brendan Galloway is a 21 year-old defender who can cover both centre-back and left-back. He has represented England at youth level twenty-one times, including three outings for the England Under 21s. Galloway started his career at MK Dons, alongside Dele Ali.
Interestingly, he became the youngest first-team player in Milton Keynes Dons' history at 15 years of age after making his debut as a 79th-minute substitute in a 6–0 victory at home to Nantwich Town in the FA Cup first round.
Since moving to Everton in the August of 2014, Galloway has struggled to break into the first-team starting eleven, making only 17 appearances in three seasons at Goodison Park. He is under contract until 2020 - having put pen to paper in a new deal in the December of 2015 and remains valued as a decent prospect by Everton.

Tony Pulis believed Galloway could do a covering job for West Brom in the Premier League last term signing him on loan. The 6ft 1in defender made three appearances in the top flight for the Baggies last season before being recalled by his parent club.
Galloway was named in the England U17 squad for the Nordic U17s Football Championship in 2012. His first match for England was against the Faroe Islands in August 2012. He represented England in the 2014 UEFA Under-19 Championship qualifying campaign.
Testament to Galloway’s talent came when Zimbabwe approached Galloway in a bid to represent them in the 2017 African Cup of Nations, Galloway chose to remain part of the England U21 set up.
Brendan clearly has potential and fits into the young and hungry mould that should become the bedrock of Sunderland's Championship ethos - he seemingly has something to prove. Galloway has 42 first-team appearances to his name and could be an asset in a Black Cats side in much need of defensive cover.
The second of the pair, 23 year-old Tyias Browning can also play centre back but doubles as a right back. Browning, a Merseyside native, came up through Everton’s youth system.
Like Galloway, he has represented England at youth level. His playing record boasts five caps at U20 level and four caps for both the U19 and U17 side.

Browning does not have as much first team experience as his Everton team mate, Galloway, having only accrued 17 appearances in his career to date.
However, Browning is particularly interesting for Sunderland right now as he has worked under new manager Simon Grayson previously. Tyias spent last season on loan at Preston, making eight appearances.
Grayson must clearly think Browning can do a job for Sunderland in the Championship having worked with him closely. Browning also had a loan spell with Wigan Athletic in 2013/2014 season but only made a handful of apearences for The Lactics.
Following his return to Everton after the Wigan experience, Browning made his first appearance for Everton's senior squad at Anfield for the Merseyside Derby. He came on as a substitute to replace long-time Toffees' legend Tony Hibbert after 72 minutes with the scoreline 1–0 to Liverpool. The game finished 1–1.
Although it may frustrate fans on Wearside that Sunderland seem to be continuing a strategy of pursuing ex-Everton players, the signing of Galloway and Browning could prove something of a coup for the club.
They are both talented, young, athletic and hungry. With so many games to play next season and Sunderland in desperate need of defensive reinforcements, Galloway and Browning should be welcomed with open arms.

I'm liking this guy and us getting players in quickly is unheard of.

It's not the fact we always seem to be getting Everton players it's the fact we are always getting players in on loan, to build their own stock up to go back to their parent club to be sold to someone else. Never heard of these two, could be okay could be terrible we'll have to wait and see, then we have Mcgeady, sorry but a big no from me. Firstly he isn't that good and, secondly we need strikers Keepers and defenders anything but wingers.

All positive for me. We need wingers and defenders as well. Strikers will come - irons in the fire. Grayson is getting down to business straight away - we didn't want him fannying around did we?

Re: Looking like 2 in
Happy to give the loaners a chance as I know sod all about them but, for me anyhow McGeady is a non starter. My problem with loans as ever is they should only be a stop gap not a stepping stone to move to another club after a successful spell with us.
McGeady ignored us 5/6 years ago to go to Moscow (I think) fair enough, then again a year or so later when he chose Everton he wasn't called McGreedy for nothing.
I got the same feeling about Fletcher, Kirckhoff, Brown, JOS and a few others, mind you I also thought if we kept Rodwell fit he would be a good player for us.
It's not a case of not being patient either, one thing that cannot be leveled at any Sunderland fan.

Re: Looking like 2 in
The loan system should benefit everyone and it has. We would have gone down years ago without it. I don't care if they move on to bigger and better things - while they're here it's usually been a bonus and gets us players of a calibre we would not normally have. Welbeck, Rose, Alonso, Evans to name but a few. All fine by me. Would have been nice to have kept them and made them permanent, but let's be realistic. Maybe these new players will turn out to be stars - if they do then that will probably benefit us in the short term while we've got no money. Maybe they'll turn out to be cracking players but not at Everton's level and would later be happy to sign permanent deals for us. Maybe they won't work out so at least there's no big money lost.
As for McGeady,he's proved himself to be a good Championship player and I don't think from what I'm hearing that Grayson would sign him if he wasn't convinced that he'd show 100% commitment.
Time will tell in all these things.

Re: Looking like 2 in
After the disaster of last season then the loss of our two best players IMO Grayson only has one job this season, a big job but only one.
To stabilize a sinking shape and make it a far better prospect next summer so most players are here for one year with some earning the right for a future with us.

RR: The Sunderland and Everton love affair seems to be never ending. We were only talking last month on your podcast about SAFC bringing some youngsters from Everton as part of the Pickford deal! Tyias Browning and Brendan Galloway look set to join us on a season-long loan. Can you describe each player in a few sentences?
AP: We've seen more of Galloway than Browning but they've both got potential. I’m a little surprised to see Galloway go out on loan given the volume of games we could have this season with the Europa League. Everton must be looking to bring in another defender who can play on the left, but we'll see.
When Galloway came into the side under Roberto Martinez he showed some decent signs but in the end needed the break when Baines returned from injury. He's a centre half by trade, quite astute and decent on the ball - I hope you play him there because that's what he needs and where you'll get the best out of him. Browning on the other hand actually made his first appearance in 2014 in a 1-1 draw at Anfield and did okay, but has only appeared for us around three times.
They've both got a bit about them but Galloway has shown a lot more.
RR: Brendan Galloway deputised for Leighton Baines at left back in 2015/16 before a loan move to West Brom. How did he do? Were you suprised he was loaned out?
AP: I thought WBA made loads of sense given that he was going to be playing under Pulis, but it didn't seem to work there because of injuries or whatever.
Again, with Browning it's hard to say because we've just not seen enough of him, but to be thrown in the deep end against the Reds (and cope) is probably testament to his character. I remember him replacing Tony Hibbert in that game at Anfield and getting up and down that right hand side a bit and causing a few issues - he’s decent going forward.
RR: Apparently Galloway has struggled with injuries over the past year, which ruined his loan to West Brom last season. Has that been that main reason he hasn't seemed to push on?
AP: I think Galloway had that issue, plus the fact that towards the back end of his time in the first team he started to lapse. I remember against Stoke at home he was absolutely torn apart by Xherdan Shaqiri and Glen Johnson - granted, he had Arouna Kone in front of him! That left him exposed but it was a sign that he was starting to struggle a little.
Still, I think his attitude is good and with a season in the Championship with a big club like yours it'll do him the world of good.

RR: Browning on the other side moved to Preston on loan and played under our new gaffer after signing a two-year contract in January last year, did he return with a glowing reference or do you think he needs more game time to impress Koeman?
AP: Browning will also benefit from this. Out of the two I'll assume you'll be more likely to keep him on a permanent deal if he does well, because odds are that Everton will want Galloway back, such is his potential.
The good thing for Tyias is he is gonna have a year in a hard league. That’s probably exactly what he needs to test him. He’ll be at a decent club with a chance to develop and help you bounce straight back (which is what your fans deserve).
RR: All in all, how do you expect them to do for us?
AP: Yeah, I expect they'll both do well but I’m going to guess that you'll be more impressed with Galloway. Him and Kone - if he stays - at centre half might work. The jury is out on Browning still, though.
We've probably got a few others you can take. There's young Kieran Dowell too who could do with the experience and I wouldn't be adverse to Mo Besic getting some fitness up there since he’s been out with injury for a while.
Hopefully they can both shine and contribute enough to get you back in the league.
Sunderland look set to sign Tyias Browning and Brendan Galloway on loan from Everton - with that in mind, we sat down with Adam Partington from GrandOldTeam.com to chat about what we can expect from the pair and whether they can become a success on Wearside.
