42 days

Post  cyprussyd on 2017-06-23, 8:20 am

It sounds a fair amount of time at first glance but how time flies when we are having fun.

42 days to get a manager in, for him to get to know the players he wants to keep then bring in the players he needs to give us a chance of staying in the championship.

Yes I did say staying in, right now relegation seems more of a good bet than promotion.

Then of course we have the Germans, no idea who they are or what their plans are or even if they are real.

Every season for the last 10 we have started with some excitement and even hope, new manager keeps us up and we look forward to the re build, well this season we don't even have that, I struggle to remember a time when it has been so bleak.

We have a owner who is reported to be worth 1.36 billion dollars and I think it's fair to say you don't get wealth like that by being stupid but looking at Shorts record with us stupid seems to be the word, or is it?

Reports say his personal wealth has not been affected by his ownership of Sunderland, in fact it rose by 3 billion dollars in 2016.

The managers who came then went may have had their ego affected but all left with a generous golden goodbye, Moyes iy seems decided he didn't need one.

Players also came and enjoyed a decent weekly wage, when I say decent! And now that they have helps us get relegated many have decided that they don't fancy the championship slog and all those night games that get in the way of life so are off or trying to find a way out.

So who really suffers? Well at first glance it's we long suffering fans but no, the real casualties are the ticket office staff, stewards, cleaners and all of the unknown people who have worked hard behind the scenes only to carry the can with redundancy when it goes tits up.

My season card is renewed and my seat on the Coxhoe branch bus sorted but I have to admit the shine is fading fast.

I look at Annette and her failing health, and when I say failing I mean failing. I feel the pain in my legs when walking and the breathlessness in my lungs when doing the simplest of tasks, I'm not looking for sympathy BTW because I am well aware that other SunderMaders are far worse off.

But like most on here I have less time left in front of me than behind and I wonder am I spending it in the best way?

Rather than spend cold winter evenings sitting at the stadium should I not watch the game with a cold pint in some foreign bar?
Well the foreign bar is a pipe dream right now until I find some way or someone who can help Annette, not for the first time I seem to be wandering in this post.

I guess my point is that yes football is just a game but to those made redundant it was a pay packet that fed families and paid the rent.
And to me and many thousand more it's not a game it's part of our DNA and has been for many years.

Short said he understood that but his actions tell me he does not, we are at best a play thing or at worst a money making business on his annual accounts.

Managers do understand more and IMO do care but the hurt has usually gone by the time they get to their Villa abroad after being sacked.

And with a very few rare exceptions players show no shame when kissing the badge of their next club.

42 days to lift my spirits, cheer me up, give me some hope and start to convince me they are worthy of my time and emotional input.

Its raining outside, enjoy your day.

Yours,

Fed up of Coxhoe.

Those days will fly over mate with the club not caring one jot about it as those at the top and players will still be raking in the £1000s a week.

Still don't understand the meagre transfer budget which is being touted.

Our biggest spend - wages - will be slashed by at least a third.

We were handed £100m   for being relegated............  £100m  ......

and they won't invest in the team... which is the core business !!!!!!!!!!

Shocked

Oh Syd, if you turn to the half enpty side we are really doomed Crying or Very sad

TBH I have too much to think about to be overly concerned. What will be will be and, as supporters. we have little influence, so no point in beating ourselves up.

But football, and following your favourite club, is supposed to be entertainment and I fail to see any entertainment on offer so far this close season - unless it is for our rivals up the road who have had plenty opportunity to have a lot of laughs at our expense Evil or Very Mad

Shocked

Don't forget we don't receive a single lump sum next year, the parachute payment is spread over 3 years;

1st year - £47 million
2nd year - £38 million
3rd year - £17 million

Doesn't sound so much now does it, hardly worth picking up the cheque.

No wonder no-one wants to buy the club with such a meagre guaranteed income.

Ha Ha
